Patna: Assailants shot dead two engineers of a private construction company in Bihar on Saturday for allegedly failing to pay extortion money. The incident has raised a questions over the law and order situation in the state even as the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleges that “Jungle Rule” has returned to Bihar with the return of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to power. The RJD which is led by Lalu Prasad is one of the coalition partners in the Grand Secular Alliance government headed by chief minister Nitish Kumar.

Police said the slain engineers identified as Brajesh Kumar and Mukesh Kumar were supervising road construction works by their company in northern Bihar’s Darbhanga district when two people on a motorcycle shot them dead at close range. They were immediately rushed to a nearby government hospital where they were declared dead.

“Criminals shot them dead while they were supervising road construction works. We are probing the incident,” a local deputy superintendent of police Dilnawaz Khan told the media today. He added that the police had launched a manhunt to arrest the fleeing assailants.

Non-payment of extortion is seen as the main reason behind the daylight murder. Reports said the criminals had recently sought heavy extortion from the company but the latter refused to oblige them and also reported the matter to the police. Acting on their complaint, the local administration had also made deployment of police forces at the construction site in view of the threat but that did not prevent the murders.

Engineers are not the lone targets of gangsters in Bihar. Of late, the criminals have demanded extortion from nearly 10 doctors from across the state — ranging from Rs500,000 to Rs20 million (Dh27,700 to Dh1.1 million), creating fear among the doctors who have sought adequate protection from the state government.

Keeping in view the prevailing situation, chief minister Nitish Kumar himself held close door meeting with top police officials more than twice soon after returning to power and warned of action against those failing to perform yet the situation remains far from normal. Bank robberies and continuing looting of idols of Hindu deities remain issues of major concern in the state.

I hope Award Wapsi Group will take notice of this and lend their voice against this. This is also is a kind of intolerance (their tolerance against extortionists). If they don't, it will presumed that Engineer's life is cheaper than that of Artists and those were Hypocrites!!

No matter how unfortunate it is; those engineers were killed by the secular goons, so don't expect anything from the award-wapsi group. :(

So what if there is Jungle Raj, darkness, corruption, poverty or even hunger in Bihar? At least, they have a 100% secular coalition ruling them.

As cold as it sounds, what else is news elsewhere? :pop:
