Turkey's long-awaited dream to manufacture an indigenous car has started to see some concrete developments. As the design phase has been delivered, the country is now poised to see the first model.

On Friday, Dec. 27, the first model of the "made-in Turkey" car will be showcased in the Gebze district of the industrial province of Kocaeli, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said Friday, responding to the journalists' questions in Kuala Lumpur where he attended a summit.

Following Erdoğan's announcement, Industry and Technology Minister Mustafa Varank also shared a photograph with two veiled cars at the Gebze premises of Turkey's Automobile Joint Venture Group (TOGG) – formed by the five largest Turkish industrialists in November 2017 to develop the country's first domestically manufactured automobile. The location of the production headquarters for TOGG has recently been determined as the Information Technologies Valley (IT Valley) in Gebze.

TOGG aims to begin mass production in 2021 and launch the domestic automobile in the first half of 2022. The first vehicle to be released has been planned to be a completely-electric C-SUV. Plans state that up to five models will be in production by 2030. In the meantime, three existing models produced by the group will undergo a revamp.

I would like remind that: Turkey is world's 12th or 13th largest motor vehicle exporter. Even the automotive supplier industry is now one of the largest suppliers in Europe. But this time, in contrast to present automobile industrialization, TOGG project is not just production and assembly, but all added value with all its design rights will belong to Turkey.

Trivia: Pininfarina design team helped to creating the design characteristics of the first generation. Even though there were world-renowned designers such as Serdar Soyal in TOGG team, this collaboration was an important experience. I think this shows that the main focus of the project is not the domestic market.

I thought they were going to offer a hybrid solution, first. But from the 1st gen they will have a full electric drive system. Also control surfaces and software solutions within the vehicle belong to Vestel.

It is probably based on the Pininfarina K350 Concept.

This example includes the design features of a HK-based automobile initiative. Even the front grille has the emblem of that brand...

Karakaş has said that they have developed a project that will completely eliminate the need for in-car navigation devices by using imaging technology with augmented reality as a result of their joint work with a local startup company.
“We are working on a system that completely eliminates the need for navigation devices in the car. This system, which uses imaging technology with augmented reality, is not currently available as a solution. If we manage the production in time, we will use it in our first SUV model, if not, we aim to use this system in our future vehicles,” the TOGG CEO said."

the coolest thing about the car is that its fully electric, they picked the best time when other carmakers are having difficulties from changing from benzin and diesel to electric.

Along with SUV, a sedan model for domestic car to be disclosed on Friday

The Turkish public is excitedly awaiting the unveiling of Turkey's first domestically produced automobile on Friday.

It has been announced that a fully electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) C-segment model is set to be unveiled to the public at a ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, along with ministers and leading figures of the Turkish business world. A sedan model in the C-segment range will also be manufactured as part of the domestic car manufacturing project. Production of the sedan model is expected to launch after the SUV goes into production.

The ceremony to unveil Turkey's first domestically produced car will be held at the premises of Turkey's Automobile Joint Venture Group (TOGG) in the city of Gebze. The group is composed of the five largest Turkish companies and holdings, who struck a partnership aimed at working on Turkish car development in November 2017.

Erdoğan is expected to test drive the first fully electric SUV model, which has been designed by Italian car design firm and coachbuilder Pininfarina. The test drive will see the president cross the Osmangazi Bridge near Gebze Information Technologies (IT) Valley, where the TOGG is based.

The first car to be certified as "Made In Turkey" is expected to hit the road in 2022 and includes an autonomous driving feature for a safer, more comfortable drive. By 2030, the TOGG aims to release five models to the market. In the meantime, three existing models produced by the group are set to see a revamp. The consortium will not only produce for the domestic market, but plans to export the models globally.

The consortium is also working toward securing a 5-star safety rating from the Euro New Car Assessment Program thanks to its active and passive security and safety equipment. TOGG hopes to seal this before the first model hits roads in 2022. Turkey will enjoy full intellectual property rights over the vehicle, as the first of its kind solely produced in the country.

In November 2017, Turkey embarked on a groundbreaking initiative to manufacture its own domestic automobile. The project has brought together the country's largest manufacturers and companies in a consortium that includes Anadolu Group, BMC, Kök Group, Turkcell and Zorlu Holding, all contributing a wealth of experience in various sectors. The TOGG was founded in June 2018.

People say that this car is made in Italy and brought to Turkey. I really wonder where did they produce this prototype in Turkey? Which factory was been used to produce it?
