Fair enough, if they keep it open for tourism and tourist revenues I'm not completely against it. Also, in my opinion, just because Fatih Sultan Mehmet did it 600 years ago, does not mean we should forever keep it the same.

But there is no practical value in turning it into a mosque. There are over 3000 mosques in Istanbul, with dozens being built every year, while most of them are empty and just a tax burden. The value is only symbolic and emotional.

I dont want dozens of mosques being built I just want to pray at hagia sophia. I always been critical of new mosques being built due to many historical ones being empty.

it not the idea of praying at Ayasofya that I am against. I am against the way this is being exploited for votes and the danger of destroying cultural heritage, just in the sake of historical pride of conquest. I agree with you, many historical mosques are empty, while dozens are being built. Then again, there are dozens of historical mosques in the direct vicinity of Ayasofya that are open for prayer.
