I thought we could use a thread to discuss developments, cooperations or news in our neighbouring countries from time to time, as long as we keep it civil and refrain flame wars.


Georgia is apparently interested in acquiring some of our gadgets.

“We are opening a huge prospects for cooperation with Turkey, which has a very serious military industry. I will be leaving for Turkey on Thursday evening… and we may implement joint projects in military [industry],” Alasania told the Georgian Public Broadcaster on May 8.

How much influence do we have in Georgia? Present PM is anti-Russian and favors cooperation with Turkey regarding Baku oil pipe line.. It will have to stay that way in the future.

Keeping Georgia is utmost importance for our energy coordinator with Azerbaijan. Or we have to keep Georgia or create another cooridor through South-Azerbaijan.

Turkey will play a huge role in supplying energy to Europe and we will be huge player in the region if we can control the silk road which go's through the Turkic states.

The silk road route is useless considering the fact that Iran is acting as a buffer state between those Turkic states.

I did not brought Iran into this. I just say that there are buffer states between these Turkic states. Armenia (and Georgia) are two non-Turkic states between Azerbaijan and Turkey. Iran between Turkey and Turkmenistan/Azerbaijan.

Silk road is not for only Turkic states...Iran, Pakistan, China, Turkey, Turkmenistan etc...There are many elements, and they all are gaining benefits out of it...So that "buffer zone" term is not applicable for this situation

Yes, but this pipeline is facing huge pressure of Russia and Iran who both try to stop this proposal under the excuse of environmental issues.

But ofcourse you would agree with me that environmental issues are bs. And to be honest they can't really stop it in a legal way.

Turkey doesn't need Iran to reach Azerbaijan:

Some say Turkey doesn't have oil, yes we have, we have Azerbaijan.. two states, one nation.

But it would be better if we get another corridor through South-Azerbaijan. Caspian sea will become Turkish lake once again.

Russia is not opposed to Turkish influence in Turkic states. Russia and Turkey have unprecedented cooperation. We don't have visa, we have billions of dollars of trade, Russia wouldn't want to sacrfise this for Iran. Just few months ago there were Turkish / Russian festival in Turkey.

Atatwolf, the Caspian Sea is a contested sea and Iran and Russia have both raised strong concerns of environmental issues over this pipeline. Plus neither Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are militarily capable of providing security for that pipeline.

South Azerbaijan is nothing but a fanboy's dream.

I would love Jordan to get Turkish Aselan S2A gun systems and A2G missiles. Our F-16 were upgraded in Turkey, Aselan established a branch in Jordan specialized in manufacturing optical devices. I like Turkish armored vehicles but since we manufacture similar ones, we won't need them.

I didn't know Jordan produced armored vehicles, what are the names?

Azerbaijan is capable of protecting against Iran. Additionally Azerbaijan has the UNconditional support of Turkey and support of Azeri in Iran. You think Iran will attack this pipe line? Iran opinion is not important. Russia's opinion is important and it is favorable.

Azerbaijan isn't capable of protecting its interest in a potential war against Iran. They lack the resources + manpower. There are only two powers in the Caspian Sea, which are Iran and Russia.

Iran can't touch Azerbaijan because it knows what will happen. So Azerbaijan is stronger than Iran.
