Hmm its for the trukish people and their administration to decide.

What do i feel as an outsider (pakistani kashmiri) ?
I feel turkey should remain in nato until they can. Even though Nato aint worth shit these days but turkey can milk them for military hardware and perhaps a sense of security against united states and germany. Cuz turkish relations with united or germany ain't that great anymore.

Stay in Nato as long as u can. When the time comes turkish people will know how and when to quit.

I feel there is no need to quit just yet. More loss than any benefit. Turkey should quit when it is in their interest to quit.

Dude, either you're trying to provoke by making stupid comments or you really are a bit dense. We don't need to close down incirlik. it's a freaking base that NATO is also using, and under the NATO, US is using it. so the more you use it the more you're dependant on Turkey. Of course we know that the US is establishing alternative bases to lessen how much they use Incirlik, but you know just as well as I do, that a base like Incirlik that has been the primary base for actions isn't abandoned that easily.

Second of all, why should we leave NATO when we're an important ally. Europe needs Turkey in NATO, US might not, but then again US pretends it can be everywhere at once, but without allies you'll be overstretching your supply lines and when shit hits the fence you'll need a save place to withdraw too.

The current situation is due to US still using old cold war politics. But We as the turks here in the forum are hoping that those old school politics will be broken apart. we're not interested in being kept in the old school politics. Because those policies don't benefit my country in the long run, but only as long as we're so called good allies.

Our own defense industry's improvement and hopefully making us independant of US and EU supplies we'll be able to change the geopolitics of the middle east with allies who're interested in reshaping it to something more lasting and peaceful. But these things take time, and while we're moving with big steps in the right direction, the geopolitics in the ME are also moving along. So while Isis, US, YPG, Assad, Russia are all vying to split ME apart, it's paramount for Turkey to find stakeholders who're interested in coexistance. Iraq hopefully is moving in the right direction. I don't agree that Turkey took that negative stance against Assad, but RTE had grown a big head at some point, but now I hear they're willing to work with him if he is reelected fairly.

If RTE and AKP had been more constructive instead of damning Assad, we'd have a much better position politically. Remember RTE and Assad even talking and shook hands and such. We could have used good relations as an excuse to move in and stop the terrorists who have grabbed what they could and YPG expanded their influence. Now Russia is saying nations who're not invited by assad should **** off. Well invitation by mayors and govenors from each city in syria could count as an invitation since Assad aren't considered ruler anymore once he started bombing his people.

Still the US cooperating with the YPG terrorists have been what diminished our alliance to a few words, and a piece of paper. Remember it takes two to tango, so unless you are able to look at your own country and be critical of how they **** up their allies, you'll only be a provocateur who aren't even worth talking to.

just my opinion. :)

Why this senseless topic/idea constantly finds its way into this forum ? This is not even a debatable issue, Turkey has never considered such thing seriously, being a NATO member is a force multiplier and you can not just quit such structure without spending billions.
That would cost billions to both government (infrastructure) and defense industry, it would mean losing access to key technologies, losing nuclear sharing and protection, you will have to pay double of the prices like arabs to purchase something. That means you will have more enemies and threats around you. On the other hand there is no example of kicking a country out. NATO could not even afford to lose Turkey either. Turkey is one of the core members, she is the shield of the alliance, they would never allow her to left, that would be a disaster and cost billions to NATO as well. And No Country has friends or real allies in this world but NATO is the best club you can get in for defense. Only alternative would be being a EU member and having a European collective defense organization. Look what happens in Ukraine or Syria. Russia could never replace NATO as a trustworthy ally, Russia is a natural enemy/threat/rival of Turkey for centuries. NATO means stability.Despite all the bad things happened, NATO is an alliance of western democracies(civilized world), you have to be crazy to replace it with autocratic corrupt unstable eastern alliances (like Shanghai Pact, China or Russia). Until becoming a EU member, there would be no alternative for Turkey. Turks will continue to complain or talk but they will never consider leaving NATO. This topic is just senseless

I think we should ALL leave NATO and let the US do the „job“. We don’t want to play this US war game anymore. It’s a just a waste of Money and resources. Until EU-Army is established, we will leave Nato as soon as possible. This decision has made in Europe.
I hope we too will be a part of the EU-Army!

And until then I hope we will evolve our own army into being a professional one, rather than mandatory!

EU army will never happen people. The EU agrees on lots of things but not on foreign policy or defense. Look at political direction Visegard countries are taking for example.

EU-Army is possible, but I don’t think a non-EU member will be involved.
