It's called Mehmetcik-1. Based on advanced HK designs, jam free and very durable, can be modified with all kinds of electronics and grenade launcher. And its per unit price is much cheaper than other rifles in the same league. Suitable for both regular infantry and SF use. Serial production starts in 2009. Likely will be available for NATO and allied countries.

In year 2008 Turkish Ministry of Defense announced they will be switching from the G3 7.62mm rifle to the HK416. The Turkish government owned arms and ordnance manufacturer MKEK will be producing the rifle under license from Heckler & Koch.Turkish Army has adopted locally-built HK416 clone, named the Mehmetçik-1.Mehmetçik-1 will replace all of Turkish Army's G3 rifles by 2012.

The H&K G3 battle rifle has been phased out in many countries and replaced with assault rifles chambered in intermediate cartridges. Along with the H&K G3, MKEK also produces the a variety of H&K MP5 models so the move to another H&K rifle is not surprising. Norway is also replacing the G3 with the HK416.

The pistol grip and stock look different to most of the HK416 photos on the internet. The wikipedia page has a photo with “HK416N” markings and the same configuration. The photo is marked for deletion from Wikipedia and there are few other references to the “HK416N” on google.

I cannot see any other differences between the Mehmetçik-1 and the HK416N other than the MKEK markings. The only different I have read about on a couple of forums is that MKEK are using different manufacturing techniques and different metals than H&K, which I take to mean a slightly different aluminum and steel alloys, which is not surprising.

The scope pictured above is the Elcan SpecterOS34x scope which well known for its use on the Canadian Diemaco C7/C8. The grenade launcher is the H&K AG416.

The Turkish Wikipedia page says the rifle will be manufactured in four different models. A Sub-carbine (10.5″ barrel), Carbine (14.5″ barrel), Rifle (16.5″ barrel) and “Distance” (Sniper/Marksmen, 20″ barrel).

Below is a video of a press conference with that important Turkish guy showing off the weapons and looking out of his depth:

By all accounts the HK416 is a great rifle combining the best of the AR-15 platform with the benefits of a gas piston system.

Turkey has also adopted a new sniper rifle

Seems like a modified HK416 with a rail system and the ABS stock and magazine housing from the Armalite 14... Interesting design.

So are we using these in the army yet? When are switching over to these? G3s are really outdated.

Aslamualikum Cabalti,

How many bullets does a soldier uses on average during a conflict? Will soldier have to abandon it after nearly 10,000 rounds have been fired? I haven't seen this Accuracy life parameter in other guns.. what is the case?

According to officials, New 7.62mm Turkish rifle carries the latest generation rifle technologies such as gas piston mechanism and piccatiny rails on it with lighter weight and longer accuracy life. If new rifle passes the trials, Serial production will be started in Jule 2011...

Bro, I do not know How many bullets a soldier uses average during a conflict but When we checked the specifications of HK G-3, It is clear that The accuracy life of G-3 is 6000 rounds...

Accuracy life can more accurately be interpreted as barrel life.

Every pistol, rifle has a barrel life.

In guns and pistols, the barrel has groves which give the fired bullet stability by spinning it, which with use deteriorates. Thus, after a certain limit of rounds fired, the accuracy of the bullets being fired will also go down. Barrel would be able to fire but will loose accuracy.

In this case, 10,000 round barrel life / accuracy life means, the barrel will even fire after having fired 10,000 rounds, but after that accuracy of the shots will go down.

In simple words, the barrel can be expected to have an average group size for so many rounds before that average group size starts to get larger, so when it gets larger group size, it means chances of hitting the target will go down also.

Plus, barrel life and accuracy also depends on the material used in the making of the barrel.

Here, below is how groves are in a pistol and rifle barrel.
