DOHA: Turkey and Qatar agreed to jointly operate the Kabul International Airport in Afghanistan, diplomatic sources told Anadolu Agency on Thursday.

After talks between committees from both countries, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Turkish and Qatari companies to operate the airport in collaboration on the basis of equal partnership, the sources told Anadolu Agency.

According to the sources, the MoU was signed during Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu's visit to Doha for the seventh Turkey-Qatar High Strategic Committee Meeting on Dec 7.

A joint committee consisting of Turkish and Qatari officials would visit the Afghan capital Kabul to discuss the deal with the interim government of the country, as well as the demands and expectations of the Afghan side.

Flights were suspended at Afghanistan's main international airport in Kabul after the Taliban took over power in August and the US troops destroyed equipment and a radar system at the facility before leaving the country.

The continuation of the operation of the Kabul airport is very important for the continuation of the international aid and the airline trade of Afghanistan. The local government in Afghanistan needs to learn about these airport operations and train qualified personnel as soon as possible.

.
So Taliban finally budged and hand over airport to a Nato country.

.
Turkey and Qatar are among the world's leading countries in airport operations. So Kabul airport will be activated in a very short time and Afghan personnel will start to train here.

As for NATO, even the Taliban saw Turkey's purpose and differencies from other elements, but some people here insistently try to impose it as if Turkey had sent any combatant element there.

.
Good for both countries
Two traitorous nations , Israelophiles being allowed to manage Kabul airport would be disastrous for Afghanistan, Afghans should run the airport themselves maybe with Pakistan's helps.

UN planning $8 bn aid package for Afghanistan

KABUL: The UN is seeking an aid package of eight billion dollars to tackle the humanitarian and economic crisis in Afghanistan in 2022, the Wall Street Journal reported, quoting UN officials.

According to the UN officials, the latest plan would exceed the UN’s current humanitarian mission and include a broader effort, from providing hot meals for children in schools, to generating jobs or finding ways to pay Afghanistan’s energy bills to its neighbors.

“A human being needs more than being handed a piece of bread. They need dignity, they need hope,” said Ramiz Alakbarov, deputy special representative of the UN Secretary-General and the humanitarian coordinator for Afghanistan, as quoted by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

“We do not want to become an alternative government of Afghanistan. But is it important to support systems, not lose the gains made in past years,” he said. This comes as German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock speaking at a press conference pledged that Germany will ramp up efforts to prevent the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan.

Afghanistan is heading toward a worsening humanitarian catastrophe, she said, with major economic sectors collapsing. Many people are hungry. “Whenever you find out that the people are selling their daughters to earn food, it is difficult to tolerate it,” she said. With the fall of the former government, Afghanistan plunged into a drastic economic crisis as the US froze the country’s assets, which are over $9 bn.

“Afghanistan currently needs serious aid from the international community and this aid will develop the economy in the country,” said Iraj Faqiri, an economist. The Islamic Emirate said that the aid needs to be implemented in coordination with the Afghan government.

“International aid should be provided conditionally to the Afghan government so the aid is distributed transparently. No organization has the right to distribute the aid arbitrarily,” said Khalil Rahman Haqqani, acting minister of refugees and repatriation. – TOLO news

It would be nice if anyone would run the airport property so these people get the aid they need. I don't see the problem with turkey running it. If you can't trust Turkey, I don't know who you can trust. They certainly know how to run an airport.

Turkey is forced to have relations with Israel, despite Israel being situated on land that used to belong to Turkey only 100 years ago. Its not a lot of land they have stolen, only 20,000 sq/kilometres, Thats just the world we live in unfortunately.

Similarly Pakistan is very close to China which has about 1,6 million sq/kilometres of land that arguably belongs to the uygur muslims, which is 80 times larger than Israel. But every reasonable person can understand the necessity of that relationship. So let's not discredit turkey because of their relationship with Israel just yet.
