Turkey invites India to set up power plants

The government today said Turkey has invited Indian firms to participate in setting up of the proposed 15,000 MW coal-based power plants in that country.

“Turkey is planning to set up some 15,000 MW coal based power generation plants and they requested Indian companies to participate in the tenders,” an official statement here said.

Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal, who is leading an Indian delegation to participate in World Mining Congress in Istanbul, met Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz.

They discussed the energy situation in both the nations, in particular in the area of coal mining, the statement said.

Mr. Jaiswal also offered to provide technical assistance for developing coal and lignite mines and coal washeries in Turkey.

The statement added, “Turkey’s Energy Minister evinced keen interest for technical cooperation with India in coal mining and clean coal technologies.”

Oh!! they have not invited Brother Pakistan now!!!

Descon and Nespak, two major Pakistani engineering power houses are active in Turkey decades before India even got invited. And last time checked, the Indians were themselves reeking for Turkish and Chinese assistance and Chinese funding to setup their own power plants. This at best is a case of Turkish needing cheap Indian labours or may be just a paper gesture..who knows!

You know in a massive project like 15000MW power plant, there are going to atleast 8 - 12 contractors and subcontractors..and Indian companies are not going to be the "only" one there..Please have some study of contracting and project management. Rest assured a bulk of these contractors will be Western and Chinese.

May be they should and may be (inept) Pakistani ambassadors shall focus on promoting & supporting Pakistani companies and digging opportunities of contracts.

Indian contracting companies got a big boos by post 9-11 they undertook projects of trillions $ in Afghanistan and which later expanded to other continents.
Without US support Indian contractors were limited to local business.
Most of the overseas business Indian contractors did since 9-11 was mainly with US contractors.... and this is quite a boost.

How much of boost is quite a boost? India runs a -ve trade. Most of Indian growth is due to local demand. Did you say trillions of dollar in Afghanistan? You do understand what trillion dollar is, right?

This only shows what kind of knowledge u have,....U r comparing Pakistani engineering with Indians..what a joke!!!!

we may not have engineering capabilities as China..but we definately have more industrial engineering experience and quality than Pakistan..ever heard of BHEL, NTPC, BEL not to forget private enterprises like L&T, Reliance etc...
Indian companies like NTPC, BHEL are already building power plants in Srilanka and African countries...

and plz read the article befoe posting..they are not asking cheap labour but engineering expertise..but iam sure for cheap labour they will aproach Pakistan gov...

Kindly stop posting comments like this, it does not add to the quality of the thread in any manner but instead may derail the thread completely.

quality of the thread or PDF will not go down than it already is....I had seen the type of quality previous day when a bunch pakistani losers posted some idiotic cr@p on Indian navy and were jumping like bunch of monkeys.. even abusing our religion...sorry but i dont care about quality when they dont have decency to talk as human beings..

Nationality of the engineers have nothing to do with with their capability. Please look up some Pakistani engineering entities before posting your indiot supremacist crap. We are far better than the indiots of silicon valley which have completely destroyed the IT industry.

Habib Construction Services (Pvt.) Ltd (HCS) a civil contractor in Pakistan registered to a no limit catagory by Pakistan Engineering Council.

HCS is involved in the largest road network of Ring Road being developed in the metropolitan city of Lahore. Construction of Lahore Ring Road [2] is a major project of HCS. Moreover the airside and landside infrastructures of New Islamabad International Airport are at its credit. HCS is executing works with various departments like Communication & Works, Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan, Water and Power Development Authority, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission, National Logistics Corporation & Sialkot International Airport Limited.[3]

HCS has completed various projects [4] amounting to US $72 million in a short period of almost fourteen (14) months. Similarly the cumulative cost of present workload [5] is US $263 million.

I cannot attest about DESCON but we do have a level of engagement with NesPak in Saudi Arabia as it is engaged in more than 20 projects related to power, irrigation, roads, highways and water distribution.

And if nationality of engineers is all that important to you then let me state that at Makkah Metro Railway project, we already suffered enough at the hands of Indian civil engineers...so please not again..don't remind us of the nightmares.

Okay..Pakistani engineers are great.Happy? Can we move on now and get back to the topic?
Some information about this new development will be interesting..Like what other companies were invited, the prospects of the project.. a little history etc...Can anyone throw some light?
