Turkey found weapons on an Iranian aircraft that was forced to land in the southeast of the country on March 19 and arrested the plane’s crew, the Dogan news agency reported Tuesday.

The cargo plane was headed to Syria from Iran, the news agency in Istanbul said on its Web site.

Turkish officials found weapons including rocket launchers, mortars and automatic rifles, Dogan said. The Iranian plane, an Ilyushin Il-76TD, has been impounded at the airport in the city of Diyarbakir, it said.

The government is checking whether the consignment was registered with international aviation authorities, Dogan said.

The grounding of the plane followed a similar incident last week in which a Syria-bound Iranian aircraft was forced to land in Diyarbakir, searched and later released.

On Sunday, military fighter planes were on hand in case the civilian Ilyushin aircraft's crew refused to comply with the Turkish authorities order to land.

Inspection of the plane's cargo was reportedly ongoing.

The plane inspected last week on Tuesday was found carrying 150 tons of food, but no "material contrary to international standards,” Turkish authorities said.

Earlier reports had suggested that the aircraft had been carrying arms or nuclear material.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry on Sunday denied an earlier Dogan news agency report that Turkish military jets forced the plane to land at Diyarbakir airport to search it for arms.

The ministry said it is standard procedure for Iranian cargo planes to request permission to fly over Turkey, and sometimes they are required to make unscheduled landings to be searched.

Just to make it clear. This was the second one we stopped. The first one had no weapons on it however this one did.

I think this is a clear message to Iran that we do not support armament of terror proxies. Maybe Iran thought their new found friendship with Turkey would lead them to exploiting us as a route to smuggle weapons.

.
we are stopping these planes because of the western pressure and its not something to proud of.

yes, that is actually true. NATO is keeping pressure on Turkey to search for weapons and nuclear arm.

but i don't understand what we shouldn't be proud of?
and why we shouldn't be proud of it?

turkey doesn't want to support terror and is doing a nice thing, those weapons will maybe be used to kill innocent life somewhere.

lol at the bold part..we are (finally)exporting arms to another states,do we know those weapons wont take any innocent lives? hamas and hizbullah are the players of ME,like it or not..and if they have been powerful enough, israel wouldnt dare to attack them and invade palestine and lebanon..balance is important for stability and for peace that we seek...

with innocent life i meant terrorist groups in Syria or an another arabic country. We can never know what the Iranian government does for sure.

and maybe those weapons can be used to kill innocent jews in Israel maybe.
i think Turkey is caucious when selling weapons and just dont sell it right by the way, and beside i havent heard that we sell weapons to U.S.A or some other country that has done war crimes or something like that. arent we mainly exporting cars and IFV or something like that? i havent heard that turkey makes rifles, so i dont know at that part.

yes we are not exporting arms to USA because we cant;)

but, hey, usa is our main arms provider, how about that? should we stop buying arms from them and look for a more "innocent" state?

in the world, there are actors in int politics and no actor is "clean".we cant design our policy based on this perspective.we should look for our interests.

and having too much western pressure is not sth to be proud of.thats what i said...but its diminishing anyway.

.
well U.S.A is our main arms provider and also many other nations because they are the only SUPER state in the world, and can make new, technologicaly and advanced weapons that some countries struggle with. and because of the cold war side and all that.... but but,

if you dont support them you will have a lot of trouble like Syria and some other nations, they have the power to turn a lot of countries against you and keep pressure on them, so i think thats one of the reasons.

and yes you are right we Should look for Turkeys interest and we HAVE to if we want to succeed in this world.

oh okay i thought you meant that we shouldnæt be proud of finding weapons that might go to terror (who knows?).

.
in the ME,israel is our rival and a very ugly one.we should play with their rules.we should allow those weapons to pass.. if we consider that we couldnt say a word against cia's torture planes flying over Turkey, its a shame.it teaches us a lesson that we are still not fully independent from the west..however,im positive for the future,we have been doing well so far.

. . . .
no,cia illegally tortured people in the sky..and we didnt have the balls to say "do your shi.t out of our country"..i mean we couldnt show the "humanitarian" stance as we did when it comes to iran..

In any case you shall be proud of it, who knows where those weapons were heading for!!!
Part of those may have ended up in bordering states of Syria.

Good job.... I must say.

On a side note;
Pro-Iranian (overt / covert) militias can be found in all Islamic states...
In reality Iran pose bigger threat to Islamic states and Islam as well.
Iran is messing way too much in neighboring states and there are ample evidences.

i have to ask then, why are they torturing them in the planes? WTF?!?!?!?! don't they have anything else to do?

and i know, we cant and coulnd't do anything. but look at it from the bright side. U.S.A has supported us in the past (after WW2)
