TRMOTOR Turbofan Engine for TFX Fighter Jet

Turkiye has started developing Turbofan Engine for the TFX project
but needs 8-10 years for TRMOTOR Turbofan Engine



and soon TEI TS-1400 Turboshaft Engine for T-129/T-629 Attack Helicopters and T-625 Utility Helicopter

I wish you guys success but I can't imagine Turkey being able to produce an engine comparable to the F110. I hope that I am wrong.

TEI has knowledge on GE F110 engine. Production under license already exists

Assembly and testing of 271 engines under Oncel I and Oncel II Programs and 42 engines under Oncel IV Program were completed for the F110 engines available in the inventory of Turkish Armed Force.

Assembly and testing of 10 F110 engines available in the inventory of Oman Air Force were also completed.

Troubleshooting under warranty, module assembly, main engine assembly, inspection and testing of 2 F110-GE-129C engines of Saudi Arabia Air Force are carried out by TEI, which continues to provide troubleshooting and under-warranty repairs for these engines.

The activities carried out for this purpose are as follows:

  • Engine Inlet Checks
  • Engine Inlet Tests
  • Engine Removal
  • Module Removal
  • Viewing
  • Accessory Repair / Testing for Air Supply and Maintenance Center
  • Part Orders
  • Module Assembly / Balance
  • Engine Assembly
  • Test
  • Shipment

There is a big difference b/w assembling and manufacturing. I highly doubt that Turkey has the metallurgy prowess to build an engine comparable to F110 before 2035. Best of luck Turkey, I hope they succeed.

I did not mean Turkey can immediately. There is infrastructure for the engine. You're right, it will take some time. T-700 was produced under license in Turkey. This infrastructure helped the development of the domestic engine(TS-1400)

Does Turkey have indigenous single crystal superalloys or powder metallurgy discs? Do they have their own FADEC system or compressor design? These are just a few of the obstacles Turkey faces. Can Turkey not approach the US to license produce the F-110s?

If I'm not mistaken they are license built in Turkey by TUSAŞ Engine Industries (TEI) as well; so possible they can take their know how and apply it else where? Just a guess.

There isn't any realistic way that a singular country can develop its own stealth fighter. On its own, no chance of that happening. When it comes to turkey, there can only be a stealth fighter in the next 10 years or so, IF they get help from the west. Otherwise it's just a whistle in the wind. It's ambitious, that's for sure, but I am very skeptical that turkey could pull it off on its own. Just the same way I am skeptical about Pakistan's AZM Project.

I feel AZM Project will be a PAF Specific spin of FC-31, PAF doesn't have the time and resources to start a project from scratch. My other speculation is could be a redesign of JF-17 along the Chinese J-18.

PAF would be foolish not to join this project. Looks very promising.

Pakistan's AZM project is a joke & waste of time/money. All we gonna do in the end is TOT of some Chinese jet.

Powder metallurgy has played a major role in the industrialization of Turkey. This is reflected in powders, automotive parts production, hard metal and diamond cutting tools, magnets, ceramics and porous concrete with a total market of about $150 million (US) in 2001. Strong trends in automotive production and the stone market suggest a doubling of this figure in 4 to 5 years. Turkey is endowed with an extensive and capable network of universities and research institutions active in all aspects of powder metallurgy and particulate materials.

''Although the contract was signed in February 2017, the history of TEI’s knowledge and infrastructure accumulation for the TS1400 engine goes back to the Core Engine Technology Development Project that was launched in July 2012 with a 3-year schedule. The aim of the project was to develop core engine technology, which would form the basis for a 1,000 hp class turboshaft engine. Under the project, conceptual design software & methodologies for the indigenous compressor, combustion chamber, and turbine were developed by studying different engine architectural concepts. The detailed design studies on the TS1400 started in 2016. The oil lubricated TS1400 engine also features an indigenous FADEC System. The two TS1400 engines on the T625 GÖKBEY will be able to communicate with each other via FADEC. For example, if an engine experiences power loss during the flight, the other engine will be able to increase its power to compensate the lost power of the other engine. The standard engine power of the TS1400 will be 1,400 shp (shaft horsepower) but it will also have the capacity to produce 1,660 shp for a period of 30 seconds in an emergency, such as in the case of the loss of another engine.''

“The advanced technology required blisk-spool manufacturing in aircraft engine compressor manufacturing is neither available in TEI nor in our country; today only 5-6 countries in the world have this capability” said Mr. Ak?n Duman, General Manager of TEI and added “Through the contract signed with GE, the blisk-spool manufacturing technology, which is one of the state of the art technologies in aviation sector, will be transferred to TEI and TEI will become the sole source or primary source in the world for the manufacturing of the components determined in the contract.” Duman also mentioned that “The financial support granted to the project by the Undersecretariat for Defense Industries will be of crucial importance for our country’s aviation industry to reach higher performance and ensure the sustainability of such performance reached.”

With the acquisition of blisk-spool manufacturing technology, TEI will become one of the leading manufacturers in the world holding the high-end technology in rotating engine components” said Mr. Chuck Williams, General Manager of Rotating Parts Center of Excellence- GE Aviation.
