ANKARA - Turkish Defense Minister Noureddine Ganikli said on Wednesday that his country had made offers to procure US "Patriot" missile defense system.

This came during his answer to the questions of MPs in a meeting to discuss the budget of the Ministry of Defense in Parliament.

The Turkish minister added that Ankara had agreed to "buy the S-400 (Russian) missile system. On the other hand, we started working with Eurosam (a French-Italian company) to develop systems with the same characteristics, and in parallel we made offers to procure Patriot."

Ganikli pointed out that there are efforts to make Turkey and the rest of the countries of the region up for grabs, and added: "This situation put Turkey in front of significant security risks." In this regard, he stressed the importance of increasing the resources allocated to the defense, stressing that it is inevitable.

Control of the S-400 missile defense system would be entirely in Turkey's hands.

In response to a question about the deployment of the S-400, the Turkish minister said, "We will deploy it wherever we need it." He pointed out that the system "S 400" will not meet all the needs of Turkey, because of the length of the border and the expansion of areas threatened. Earlier in the day, Ganikli explained that his country plans to receive the first "S 400"system, in 2019.

He said, "the deal signed with Russia to supply the S-400 missile system will be under the contract to provide two systems."

It is noteworthy that the ministries of defense of Turkey, France and Italy signed, on the eighth of this month, a "declaration of intent" on strengthening cooperation in the manufacture of missile defense systems between the three countries. Under the agreement, Eurosam and Turkish companies will begin work on a system based on the European Air Defense System (SAMP-T) to identify common needs among the three countries.

The agreement also aims to cooperate in the field of military electronic systems, software and communication equipment, and to enhance cooperation in the field of air defense systems and missile technology cooperation.

Naah, it's good to buy different types/versions to show that we're just shopping around. buying the S400 first is good because if we ask to buy Patriots now to have diversified weapons system then the west will be under pressure from their statements that Turkey is shifting sides.

refusing to sell Patriots however will just embolden/justify our step to acquiring S400.

If US attacks we use S-400 and if Russia attacks we use Patriot.

I wouldn't waste much money on the Patriot system, because the S-400 is much more superior. The Patriot PAC-2 missile has a 160 km range while the S400 40N6 missle has a 400 km range... It would only be worth getting a patriot system ti reverse engineer it and gain the know how ( similar to s400) and implement the best of both worlds into the Hisar system.
