Türkiye, son yıllarda milli gemi, milli uçak, milli otomobil markası gibi pek çok projeye soyundu. Fakat asıl, bu milli proje dizisinin doruğu sayılabilecek başka bir proje daha yavaş yavaş gündeme getiriliyor: Milli uzay aracı!..

"TurkAster projesinin gerçekleştirilmesi: Yakın gök cisimlerine erişim sağlanarak, örnek toplayabilecek ve geri gelebilecek bir uzay aracının tasarlanması (TurkAster Projesi)" Bu ibareler 5 - 7 Eylül tarihinde gerçekleştirilen "Ulaştırma Denizcilik ve Haberleşme Şurası 2013"ün "Çalışma Grupları Rapor Özetleri" dökümünden alındı. Bu sektörlerde Türkiye'nin vizyon projelerinin uzunca bir dökümü var. TurkAster, toplam 115 projeyi kapsayan listede 113'üncü sırada. Dönem olarak 2035 verilmiş. Buna göre Türkiye, 2035'te gök cisimlerine gidecek, materyal toplayacak ve geri gelebilecek bir uzay aracı tasarlamış olacak. Yani Türkiye'nin de bir 'Meraklı'sı olacak. Bilindiği gibi Amerikan Havacılık ve Uzay Dairesi'nin (NASA) Mars Gezegeni'ne indirmeyi başardığı ve şimdiye kadar üretilmiş en zeki gezegenler arası gezginci robot olarak bilinen Curiosity de (Merakl&#305 12'den fazla kamerası, meteoroloji istasyonu, sondaj ile çevreyi 'tadarak ve koklayarak' inceleyor. Mars'ta hayata ilişkin kimyasal temel yapı taşlarını bulmaya çalışıyor. TurkAster için belirlenen görev de buna benziyor. Hedef olarak Mars ya da başka uzak gezegenlerin adı verilmiyor, "yakın gök cisimleri" deniliyor ancak Türk uzay aracı da "erişim sağlayarak örnek toplayabilecek" bu anlamda Merkalı'nın fonksiyonunu görecek.

"Aster" isminin seçilmesinin nedeni raporda geçmiyor. "Astronomi" sözcüğünden türetildiği izlenimi veriyor. İngilizce'de "dalya" ve "yıldız çiçeği" anlamları var. Erciyes Üniversitesi Astronomi Kulübü'nün kısa adı da Aster.

Sıfır yer çekimli uçak

Turk Aster Projesi, Şura'nın Çalışma Raporu'nun "Türkiye’nin Havacılık Vizyonu" başlığı altında sıralanıyor. Başka bilgi yok. Raporda, Türkiye'nin bu konudaki vizyonu, "2035 yılına kadar Uzay alanında temel araştırmadan ekonomik değer yaratmaya kadar tüm yenileşim sistemini kurmuş, uzay aracını kendisi fırlatabilen, uzaydan azami fayda sağlayan, küresel değer zinciri ile entegre ilk 10 ülke içerisinde olmak” şeklinde özetleniyor. Uzayla ilgili vizyon projesi sadece Turk Aster değil. Diğer projeler şöyle sıralanıyor:
- Sıfır yer çekimi sağlayan uçak projesi: Kısıtlı bir süre için yerçekimsiz ortam oluşturabilen büyük gövdeli uçak projesi başlatılarak yaygın kullanıma sunulması.

Astronot yetiştirilmesi

- Yerli uzay gözlem aracı: Yakın uzay gözlem aracı geliştirilmesi.
- Yerli uydu ve yer kontrol istasyonu üretimi: Tüm uyduların ve yer kontrol istasyonlarının tüm alt sistemlerinin (donanım ve yazılım olarak) tamamen milli imkan ve kabiliyetlerle tasarlanıp üretilmesi.
- Yerli uydu fırlatma sistemine sahip olunması: Türkiye’nin kendi LEO ve GEO yörünge uydu fırlatma sistemine (fırlatma rampası, roketi v.b.) sahip bir ülke haline gelmesi; milli (uzaya) fırlatma üssünün kurulması.
- TurkAster projesinin gerçekleştirilmesi: Yakın gök cisimlerine erişim sağlanarak, örnek
toplayabilecek ve geri gelebilecek bir uzay aracının tasarlanması.
- Uzaya Türk astronot gönderilmesi: Türk astronot yetiştirilmesi ve uzaya
