Tu-104. World's first successful jet airliner

. . .
Irrelevant. Why reinvent the wheel when you don't have to? British never made a long range jet bomber in the 1950s.
THIS IS IRRELEVANT TOO, so that means Russian had no capability to develop and design civil passenger jetliner from scratch in 50s and in 60s

Why should they start from scratch? Tu-104 is based on Tu-16 the same way E-7 and P-8 are based on Boeing 737. You don't reinvent the wheel when you don't have to.

So you indirectly agreeing me that Russian have no capability to design and develop jetliner in 60s and 70s, and E-7 and E-8 comes much later and only utilize jetliner airframes to reduce cost of the project

I do not know if they were able to develop from scratch in the 1950s or not but they decided to use Tu-16 strategic bomber as basis and that is how it went down.

May be they were focusing more on military development than civil sector in 50s so they think its more safer to develop jetliner based on bomber rather than totally new design

They already got a strategic bomber Tu-16 on the shelf so they decided to base Tu-104 off that rather than start a whole plane from scratch. Saves time. Saves money. The engines and fuselage are the same anyway.

Similarly, Toyota Sequoia is based off Toyota Tundra.

Was the Tu 124 a derivative of the Tu 104?
This VVIP version nearly sent the 90 year old Indian Prime Minister "upstairs " Read the account in the link below:

Do you have a comprehension problem he is talking about Tu-124 not Tu-214 :hitwall: :hitwall: :hitwall: :crazy:

Sorry, I asked a dumb question.
I should research instead of asking questions on a forum.

The Tu 124 is a derivative of the Tu 104 using turbo-fan engines.
Remarkably it has a drogue chute for use on landing on short runways.

Developed from the medium-range Tupolev Tu-104, the Tu-124 was meant to meet Aeroflot's requirement for a regional airliner to replace the Ilyushin Il-14 on domestic routes. Resembling a 75% scaled-down Tu-104, the two were hard to tell apart at a distance but it was not a complete copy of the Tu-104. The Tu-124 had a number of refinements, including double-slotted flaps, a large centre-section airbrake and automatic spoilers. Unlike the Tu-104, the wing trailing edge inboard of the undercarriage was unswept.[3]

The Tu-124 retained a drogue parachute to be used in an emergency landing or landing on a slippery surface and had low pressure tires to aid operation from unpaved airfields.[4][5] As on the Tu-104 the engines were integrated into the wings, but the turbofan engines were more fuel efficient. The placement of the engines amplified vibrations, which affected the comfort of the passenger cabin, and also the fatigue lifetime of the wing assembly.
