Pakistan Taliban must be blacklisted: US lawmakers
Tuesday, 22 Jun, 2010
WASHINGTON: A group of US lawmakers is seeking to force the Obama administration to blacklist the Pakistani Taliban and hit the group with sanctions.
The move comes a day after the failed Times Square bomber pleaded guilty to the attempted attack and admitted to getting money and training from the group.
The four senators from New York and New Jersey said Tuesday they would introduce a bill requiring the State Department to designate the Pakistani Taliban a foreign terrorist organization.
The department has said it is reviewing the move but has not yet made a decisions. Listing the group would impose travel and financial sanctions on its members. AP
