In what can be termed as a conscious effort to woo investment in India’s state of Tripura, chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday invited top garment industry figures of Bangladesh to invest in the state to avail special subsidies being offered by the Indian government in the Special Economic Zone.

Deb said, “If you export products, you are charged with customs duties and other subsidiary taxes. If the same product is manufactured here, you will get a special subsidy under prime minister Narendra Modi’s industry-friendly schemes.”

“We are setting up a logistics hub here in Sabroom, only 72 kilometres away from Chittagong. Come and invest here. India is a big market. Since Bangladesh is now world-famous for its garments industry, it should also make efforts to get hold of the whole North-Eastern market,” he added.
The chief minister was speaking at the inaugural function of the Bangladesh Film Festival at a private hotel in Agartala.

“Prime minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina have given a new height to the Indo-Bangla bilateral ties. Problems that were dragged on and on had been resolved owing to the concerted efforts of both the prime ministers,” Deb said.

Speaking about Tripura, Deb said, Tripura is gradually taking shape as the corridor of North East India.

“From Sabroom, Chittagong port is just 72 kilometres away. From Guwahati, the distance is 642 kilometres. Before NE states got access to the Chittagong port, the nearest seaport was over 1,200 and 1,600 kilometres away from Guwahati and Tripura respectively. These new opportunities will not only benefit Tripura but shall also give a boost to the economy of Bangladesh,” observed Deb.
Deb also pointed out that infrastructure projects worth Rs 15,000 crore (150 billion) in the railway and highway sectors are going to be approved soon, while another Rs 20,000 crore (200 billion) projects are in the implementing stage.

“Bangladesh is an exporter of cement and steel that are some of the basic raw materials needed for infrastructure development and certainly the country can make good profit from the ongoing projects,” he said.

Deb also talked about the disturbing elements trying to disrupt the bilateral ties of India and Bangladesh, and said, “There are some vested interest quarters that are trying to create mistrust but PM Modi is with the Bangladesh PM and 130 crore people of this country are standing solid with Sheikh Hasina.”

Why on earth would Bangladesh help a fascist government grow, and add to its ruling party's funds to harass people of one community? How perverted is that?

If BD businessmen invest with conditions applicable, that
  1. there must be the rule of law,
  2. that sufficient judges must be appointed to resolve civil cases within a maximum of 90 days,
  3. that nobody is to be harassed by the police or by vigilantes for their religion, their religious practices, their diet, their political stand,
  4. that there is to be no arrest without warrant,
  5. that all bailable cases will be guaranteed bail, without opposition by the prosecutor,
  6. that the UAPA will not run,
  7. that central agencies of hunting dissidents should be by law forbidden from operating within the state,
  8. that there should be freedom to run BD registered automobiles within that state,
  9. that visas should be eased and granted within 24 hours of application,
  10. that flow of investment funds should be fast-tracked and repatriation of profits and capital amounts should be guaranteed within 30 days of eligibility -

would this clown prince agree?

Read more about him, and his mentors

Finally, my advice to Bangladeshi brothers is to be careful whom they listen to, even indirectly; stupidity, it is now proven, is infectious.

I am sure that you are well aware that BD has always been very friendly with the people of Tripura.

While BD would not want to help BJP directly it does have an interest in a prosperous future for the people of Tripura.

Of course; that is completely different. It makes huge sense for both sides.

However, if you take dealing with a BJP government casually, it is a mistake. You should use their need to drive a hard bargain.

Bangladeshi RMG exporters investing overseas sets a bad precedent as this might encourage eventual relocation of factories taking jobs away.
The government should block any such proposals by rejecting outward remittance requests.
BD must hold Indian NE states hostage to BD made products by:
1. Making transit of Indian goods through BD prohibitively expensive.
2. Blocking investments in NE India from BD entrepreneurs.

However, the situation changes if the BD manufacturers cater for ONLY local Indian demands of clothing, and not for export through Chittagong. It is not our duty to create jobs in Tripura at the expense of our own.

I wonder if Tripura or BJP India accepts it. If not Bd should not encourage businesses to move to Tripura.

This thread really shows the geopolitical importance of Bangladesh. It’s a big country for Tripura. And what the F is Tripura, a country, a state, a city, a province and who gives a rat’s a$$ about Tripura
