PIA, Serene Air and Air Blue’s domestic flights are now more expensive.

The airlines have all increased their one-way fares by Rs10,000 to Rs15,000, citing a higher demand and not enough flights.

Travel Agents Association Chairman Nadeem Sharif said the airlines cite higher demand and jack up prices. They have been doing this for almost two years, ever since Shaheen Air closed, he said.

Shaheen Air used to operate three flights from Karachi to Lahore and three flights from Lahore to Karachi every day. It also operated three return flights from Karachi to Islamabad. Once it closed down, there was a sudden drop in the number of flights.

The airlines use this as an excuse to increase prices, said Sharif, especially in the winter season.

A one-way flight from Karachi to Lahore now costs Rs35,000. That means a return ticket could cost up to Rs70,000.

But it isn’t just the Karachi route that has become more expensive. Tickets from Lahore to Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Rahim Yar Khan and Faisalabad all cost between Rs10,000 and Rs15,000 more one-way.

These fares are expected to decrease once the winter season is over and demand reduces. Two years ago, a one-way ticket on the Lahore to Karachi route cost Rs10,000 to Rs11,000.

Sharif said the Competition Commission of Pakistan had taken notice of these high fares but nothing was done.

The higher fares have impacted travel agents’ business, with fewer people willing or even able to travel by air. But train tickets aren’t as easily available either. Ever since an online system was introduced, more people have been travelling by trains and you now have to book your seat 15 days in advance.

I'm thinking what to lament about.
70,000 return ticket wow. Just wow.

In other news: "Government of Pakistan has issued air travel vouchers worth one billion rupees to parliamentarians including 304 members of the national assembly and 100 senators.

Parliamentarians can travel for free on domestic flights and annually up to twenty Business Class return tickets can be issued to each parliamentarian.

The government has released funds to PIA for the vouchers and the airline has also begun issuing air tickets on the vouchers issued to the parliamentarians."

If you want to travel by air in Pakistan advance planning helps alot. Last moment bookings are most expensive. I checked Karachi - Lahore one way 17th Jan 2020 and ticket was Rs 15,450 for Airblue. Keeps increasing as date is at shorter notice.

Delhi to Mumbai costs about 3000 INR one way. Why is it so costly there?

Currency devaluation made 10k ticket to 16k.
One major airline getting outta market made it 20K
Winter holidays demand made it 30k-35k.
It will go back to normal which is in range of around 20k.
All of these are usually last minute bookings.

Daily expenses of PTI ministers are far higher than your ministers.
We have to fund PTI core committee as well. While only source of income is taxes on remittance based economy.

This is what it costs from Hyderabad to Delhi a 2 hr flight (its longer than Karachi to Lahore).

It is pretty easy to book flights in India through our mobile money wallets.

This is Mumbai to Delhi (a little longer than 2 hrs journey)

Problem is with Bad Services and not enough competition.
I have been saying for Ages If Pakistan builds a good Rapid not bullet but a rapid, comfortable and cheaper system that will change Pakistans economy.
It will give quick and cheaper access to small industry to bigger cities.
Lower the prices of items as good quality product can be available cheaply and quickly.
Which can help Pakistan in increasing Exports as well.
Usually Flights which takes 1 to 2 hours need usually 3 to 4 hours in air port.
Which is alot lower on train journey and price is lower and seats are more roomy and less hassle

Can you remind me again how much Nawaz Suwar increased the exports by? I'll wait

Yes. And Good points.
I came back from Pakistan a couple of days ago. I intentionally tried several long distance travel modes--train, bus, and airline.
Air Travel: Serene Air. $160 one way. 2 Hours. Lahore to Karachi.
Bus: Daewoo Bus. $12 approx. 5 Hours. Islamabad to Lahore.
Train: Sir Syed Express. $45. 22 Hours. Karachi to Rawalpindi.

By far, the airline travel was the worst. People forget the limitation on carrying/checked luggage, the hassle of security and arrival time prior to departure, the cramped seats--all make at least domestic air travel so undesirable...Well, if you have the time...
