Read my post carefully. I said I don't buy them since I became diabetic. So it was a long time ago.
However I've just asked someone and you can still buy them for about £6 a box of 6.
Where in the UK are you?

Small box cost me £4.50. Large box cost me £7.
Tasted delicious. Had enough to distribute to loads of aunties - who have now confirmed im their favorite nephew.
Bought in Southall btw.

The problem is that Pakistani mangoes are super expensive. Last week I bought a box for 40$ with 5 Sindhri mangoes. Not everyone can afford it when you have Haitian and Mexican mangoes (which are to their local taste), these Haitian and Mexican mangoes cost about 10$/box with about 18 mangoes in it. Now you do the math.

Cost of shipping.. US isnt like next to us like say Gulf or other asian states.

I'm in Yorkshire so that might be the difference.
I once went to Southall and there were stacks of boxes of mangoes on the pavement. I imagine they'll be a lot cheaper there. It might be worth a trip just for that depending on how far away you are.

Last time.. if you meant last year than... it wasn't £8 for a large box in west yorkshire.
I trust prices were not different in London, Birmingham, Manchester etc.
Same prices every where in Europe.

My understanding about the reason for underperforming mango exports is because our quality control is extremely poor. The Japanese market is a huge potential but fruit flies and lack of sufficient cold storage facilities at Karachi kills the potential for exporting mangoes at scale. The US market would love the Pakistani mango but the same issues as above have put a hold on any serious Pakistani exports to the North American market along with Japan.

It used to be 3 pounds for a box when i was a student in London. Daily bus pass was 3.50 pounds.
