TOKYO —

Toyota Motor Corp zoomed to a record 2.17 trillion yen profit for the fiscal year through March, up 19% from the previous year, buoyed by sales growth in the U.S. and a perk from the cheap yen.

Toyota President Akio Toyoda told reporters Friday the Japanese automaker appeared to be back on track for “sustainable growth,” although the coming year would be a critical test.

Looking ahead, the company announced it’s expecting 3.5% growth in profit to 2.25 trillion yen for the fiscal year through March 2016.

Since Toyoda, the grandson of the automaker’s founder, took the helm in 2009, Toyota has gone through hard times, getting embroiled in a massive recall scandal, mostly in the U.S.

. . .
A strong US economy = a strong world economy. High quality products don't hurt either and Japan is the master in this regard.

High quality is useless if you have a super high price tag which most can't afford.

Japanese strategy is always produce a decent quality but at an affordable price. That is what makes Toyota successful.

So much for the significance of our "insipid trade tariffs." The US is resilient because anyone can compete and win here, as Americans are pragmatic about consumption (quality and price).

That said, you're welcome!

Indeed.. and Toyota has been extremely successful here in the states for a very long time despite a few hiccups now and then. My personal Japanese auto preference is Nissan.

Speaking of toyota.. My father owned a Toyota MR2 back in the mid 80's. Doesn't look like much now, but I've been told it was light and swift. Not to mention popular with the ladies while cruising the mall

It's a random photo I found on Google, but his MR2 model/paint job etc looked exactly the same as this pic. He also told me that some people 'affectionately' referred to it as a moving coffin.

I'm guessing it is due to Lexus and RAV4 sales. I see more of them on the road.

Toyota dominating car sales with the top 2 (Honda slightly behind them) even though Camry sales down... but Corolla seems to have popped to #2 as Honda seems to be taking a hit for some reason.
