MOSCOW, August 04. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s veterinary inspection service Rosselkhoznadzor said on Monday it did not rule out the possibility of a total ban on beef imports from the United States.


“We are assessing risk levels at the moment,” said Alexei Alexeyenko, aide to Rosselkhoznadzor head. “We do not exclude the possibility of restrictions.”

The watchdog announced earlier on Monday that recent batches of chilled veal imports supplied from US veal grower and processor Marcho Farms contained traces of the antibiotic tetracycline. The company is one of the four US suppliers which have no restrictions on beef imports to Russia. At present, ninety-nine US companies are certified for delivery of beef to the country.

There is a huge market in Pakistan why not buy and establish highest standards farms, it is 3 times cheaper in Pakistan.

In northern areas,only agriculture is possible.

Russia now produces more grain than USSR ever produced. Plus, in recent years have been purchased the best breed of cattle from Holland, USA, Australia. So Russia may itself provide all the food, except tropical fruits.

But I hope they change this. Land is very cheap and Russia should allote land to its citizens.But then I have heard Russian govt tried it,but most russian were not interested and prefer living in cities.

My point was that instead on relying on US you could always look for other markets and establish russian farms inside country like Pakistan. your own people can work in there if you don't like or trust Pakistani workers No? but you had to read my post as hostile lol, please go back read it posted in favor of russia.

It is not about little space the northern areas have alot of space just because you see congested places in cities doesn't mean all farms are established there, are you planning to open a farm the size of British Colombia lol.

Russia is 100% self-sufficient in poultry meat. Beef and pork - by 50-70%, if I'm not mistaken. This is despite the fact that the federal program for the development of agro-industries beginning to really work a few years ago.

i am not bashing pakistan, i am just stating a logical point. Russia needs to be an exporter of food, for mankind. Pakistan should concentrate in manufacturing.

Ok fair enough, but until Russia do not export or become one Russia is an importer now how do you tackle the problem it is by establishing farms in house with stricist regulations and expanding it at the same time in close by cheap markets [e.g asia] either to imports or establish local market earn locally as well as sell it to other close by markets just like China has bought lands in Africa growing and selling crops in those markets and importing some.

Actually cost is minimal . Land is very fertile too. But the Russian people is the problem.They russian govt want Russians to farm .Most russians not interested.


On the civilian statement,yes agreed with you. Many russian are lazier types. Excellent warriors and scientists,physicists ,but they don't have patience for agriculture.Even Queen Catherine imported large number of german and anabaptist farmers .Before the revolution many rich farmers in Russia were of German descent.
