Lt Gen Naravane, one of the three senior most officers of the Indian Army, met with senior military officials
Even as China and Bangladesh are furthering their defence ties, a top official of the Indian Army visited Bangladesh from March 19 to March 22 with the intention of strengthening the bilateral military ties between India and Bangladesh.

The visit of Lt Gen M.M. Naravane, general officer commanding in chief (Eastern Command), is seen as an attempt to boost intelligence sharing between the two countries along with other regular aspects of defence cooperation.

The visit has come at a time when India has made Myanmar act tough against the insurgent groups working against India from its soil.

Lt Gen Naravane, one of the three senior most officers of the Indian Army, met with senior military officials, including the service chiefs of the Bangladesh military, and discussed various options of joint military exercise.

The defence ministry, in a statement, said, "They discussed various aspects of defence ties, including joint events and expeditions."

The GoC-in-C also interacted with the cadets of national defence college in Bangladesh and Bangladesh military academy. He was taken to various facilities of Bangladesh military academy.

Interestingly, Army chief Gen Bipin Rawat chose Bangladesh for his first overseas trip after taking charge in 2017. India was desperate to have better military ties with Bangladesh two years back in the wake of growing military relationship between Bangladesh and China, particularly over the cooperation at the Naval level.

Following Gen Rawat's visit, Bangladesh military officials visited India and signed defence deals in 2018. With Lt Gen Naravane's visit, India has signaled that more cooperation is on the offing and that Bangladesh would not need to be solely dependent on China.

Senior officers in the Eastern Command hailed the visit as 'path-breaking' as 10 to 15 years ago, Bangladesh used to be a hub for Pakistan-backed militants and Northeastern insurgent groups.

"We have come a long way since then," said a senior officer.

Insurgency seems to be the focus of this 'visit'.

Why Indian Army is so afraid of these rag-tag NE insurgents, I will never know.

You have to flush these people out once in while, it is routine business....

. . .
Natural allies, just like Pakistan and China.
Bangladesh is to be avoided under the Awami lot.

.
How many Bangladeshis have been shot on the border in the last year?

. .
Birds of feather flock together
in case of any direct or indirect attack from Bd against Pakistan we shall retaliate with full might

What made you think that?

Only Bengalis from West Bengal and Assamese are identical to Bangladeshis. Rest are identical to Pakistanis.

The only Indians I've ever mistaken for Pakistani are Punjabis or Kashmiris who are like less than 5% of their pop. Anyone else can very easily be distinguished as a gangu.

Faces and physic in South Asia keep on changing from north to south as well as from east to west. However, some false-flagger stupid here is telling Assamese people are the look-alike of Bengalis. Assamese and others in Manipur and other NE regions are basically Mongoloid. We also carry some Mongoloid elements but we certainly are not identical to them. We are also dark-skinned but the Assamese are almost fair-skinned.

I don't think everyone in Pakistan looks like a Punjabi person. Pushing that idea is inaccurate and wrong.

I believe Pakistan has a variety of ethnicities and is much more diverse than a place like Bangladesh. The majority of people in the subcontinent (yes poor people including those in Pakistan) don't come from families from which most PDF posters come from (myself included).

That said, this is what I think when I think of the average lower middle class Pakistani (as I have experienced in the US, Europe, UK and in Pakistan). These are 90% of the people in Pakistan, belonging to Sindhi, Punjabi, Siraiki ethnicities. Do they look all that different from Bangladeshis? Not really. If you are an Indian and start eating meat-based diet (protein) then you will eventually start looking like this.

Not everyone in Pakistan looks like Imran Khan and/or models/celebrities. If that was the case then Pakistan would be Sweden, and presently that is not how it is.

It is not a case of Indians vs. Pakistanis vs. Bangladeshis, it is a question of class/wealth/caste etc. Every country in the subcontinent has majority people who have led hard lives and are poor, destitute, suffering from malnutrition and as a result, not very photogenic. Claiming everyone in Pakistan looks better than every Indian or Bangladeshi is dead wrong. Please don't make these incredulous claims.

Yes Pakistan has a class system, although there is no caste. Just watch a Pakistani drama serial, you will hear 'Khandan' mentioned five times in five minutes. Everyone equal in Islam my foot.

Conversely, not very many Bangladeshis look like this guy on the left either (Hero Alam). Stop generalizing.
