According to the International Federation of Robotics (IFR), the world's top five countries in industrial robot installations for 2016 were:

1. China - 87,000 industrial robots installed in 2016
2. South Korea - 41,400
3. Japan - 38,600
4. US - 31,400
5. Germany - 20,039

Industrial robots are an indicator of future economic industrial growth. China is in the pole position and its economy should grow more than the other countries because of its higher number of newly-installed industrial robots. We see that China is increasingly becoming heavily roboticized.

The top five countries in newly-installed industrial robots are the same old industrial powers for the last 20 years. There is no upstart country trying to climb the industrial ladder.

For the country that is ranked #6 and beyond, the number of newly-installed industrial robots falls below 20,000 and is too small numerically to matter.

IFR Report: 1.7m new industrial robots to be installed by 2020 | The Robot Report (September 27, 2017)

"As the globe sees an increase in automation, China dominates the industrial robot market, producing 30% of the total supply in 2016 and selling 87,000 units. Following China are South Korea with the world’s highest robot density and 2016 sales of 41,400 units, Japan with sales of 38,600 units, the U.S. with 31,400 unit installations in 2016 and Germany with 2016 sales of 20,039 units and the largest market in Europe." Chinese companies bought 80 per cent more robots from Japan this year, says report

Oct. 31, 2017

Chinese companies bought 80 per cent more industrial robots in the period from July to September 2017 than they did in the same period last year.

This is according to the Japan Robot Association, which released a range of statistics which suggest that Chinese manufacturers of smartphones and other electronics products are turning to Japanese companies for their automation requirements.

JRA has yet to release the full report for the period, but Nikkei reports that the association’s members shipped robots valued at a total of $1.72 billion.

This is an increase of almost 40 per cent since last year.

Nikkei adds that the JRA forecasts that total production in Japan – by its members and by companies which are not its members – will increase to approximately $6.6 billion worth of robotics and automation systems.

Total exports of robots from Japan – including but not limited to China – for the period increased by more than 52 per cent to $1.3 billion.

Shipments to China – which, as mentioned, increased 80 per cent – were valued at almost $600 million.

Meanwhile, shipments to the US rose almost 14 per cent to $241 million; to Germany by 47 per cent to $115 million; and Taiwan by another 80 per cent to $45 billion.

It looks like all of the Japanese robot makers are doing well in China, so are the companies from other parts of the world.

One company which seems to be doing particularly well is Yaskawa, which reported an increase in profits of 150 per centin its most recent accounting period.

Wow, look at Japan, very impressive. Their robot/per capita ratio must be really high. China still has a considerable way to go in terms of per capita calculation.

no powa, fake news

Taiwan ranks #6 worldwide in annual newly-installed industrial robots.

In 2016, Taiwan installed 7,600 new industrial robots. The Taiwanese industrial machine is still vigorous!

Mexico ranks #8 worldwide for new industrial robot installations. However those robots belong to mostly American, European, and Japanese carmakers in "maquiladora" assembly plants.

Congrats Thailand for shaming the SuPo2012.

Congrats Thailand for shaming the SuPo2012.

Indeed, the superpower does poorly. Perhaps the reason is they do not have much meaningful industries to begin with to install robots.

***

But, China needs to increase the domestic content, the current picture is far from being perfect.

Now I see two major tasks:

1. Increase per capita robot utilization to meaningful levels (although it may not reach a high per capita level of a small population country. The threshold might be the US).

2. Increase the domestic content. If the robots are being mostly sourced from overseas manufacturers, there is nothing much to be proud of the high number of installations.

So, we have much longer way to go.

Woah. But should we stop teasing the Indians?
Though we know what kind of them tend to be. But still, teasing is not funny.

No worries mate. You cannot shame the shameless:taz: Certain people are naturally thick skinned. So go ahead and tease them at will. They will not be hurt and they will not change:cheers:
