The kind of brain dead phase of content bankruptcy us Indians are going through, it’s only logical that we talk about western shows. The run of the mill script less action-comedy movies, the never ending saas-bahu sagas laden with overacting, and the melodramatic reality shows we are continuously subjected to have forced some of us to completely abandon Indian content. However thanks to the fast internet we are no longer deprived of global content and that is why here we present a list of top five American TV shows you must watch if you haven’t already.
1. Game Of Thrones
This show is a fantasy drama based on a novel of the same name written by George RR Martin. Set in a fictional continent called Westeros GOT is a story of several royal families fighting and conspiring against each other for the one iron throne to control it all. Honestly speaking, calling this show ‘epic’ is an understatement. Be it the superb acting and impeccable northern British accent, the phenomenal production quality or simply the marvelous script, everything is just perfect, this is one show which if you start watching you won’t be able to stop. 2. Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad is a TV show with highest ratings ever on IMDB, (and that’s saying something). It is a story of a dying chemistry teacher who teams up with one of his old junkie student, turning to a life of crime, producing and selling methamphetamine. Seems a simple enough story right? However the way this drama unfolds is nothing short of genius. With near real depiction of substance-abuse scene in New Mexico USA and the role of authorities like DEA and the involvement of Mexican drug cartel and to top it all the superb acting by whole cast and especially by Bryan Cranston (plays Walter White) and Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman) make it one hell of a show.
3. How I Met Your Mother
HIMYM, as per me, is the new age Friends. I mean, I agree that nothing can replace Friends but honestly it was How I Met Your Mother with which I connected more since the situations and jokes were more relatable to my age. This show is a sitcom narrated in flash back by the protagonist Ted Mosby about how he met the mother of his children and the role of his four best friends in his life (oh and a special mention for the super awesome Barney Stinson).
If you are in your mid-twenties, single or in a relationship, working or searching for a job then this show has everything that you can relate to. If you are a fan of comedy don’t miss out on this one.
4. The Big Bang Theory
Another sitcom to make it to the list is the big bang theory, and as the name suggest this one is kind of for geeks. If you are a student of science or better still an engineer, love comic books, and enjoy situations and jokes around those subjects then this TV series is definitely for you.
It’s a story of 3 super intelligent astrophysicists (and one engineer) who are pretty at their field of study however when it comes to interacting with other average people they find themselves at pretty awkward situations. Personally I am an engineer and love science related jokes and The Big Bang Theory is the best sitcom I’ve ever come across in my life.
5. Prison Break
An extremely engaging and over the edge political thriller with nail biting scenes. The story revolves around Michael Scofield, a supremely intelligent MIT engineer who gives it all up and commits a crime intentionally in order to be imprisoned in the same prison as his brother who is there on a death row. Michael employs his intelligence and education to execute an escape plan for his brother, and what follows for the next five seasons is an amazing show which you will just keep on watching.
