Lets get familiar with each other histories and cultures.

To be honest, my perception of South East Asia, or South America history of culture is very limited (unfortunely, and to blame my education system that is very eurocentric).

So, lets put top 10 historical figures of your country, from any branches, from politics, to sport, music, science, literature... And please give me a few sentences for each, where you explain why you put each person in top 10 list. And tell me which fellow countryman inspires you the most.

Please, dont start religious and nationalism quarrels.

I will start from my history.

1) Nikola Tesla (1856 - 1943)
No words needed. He is not only most important Serb, but probably one of most important humans in history of mankind. Eternal source of inspiration for millions of Serbs. A simple Serb, son of orthodox priest, that conquered science world and made legend of himself.

2) Mihajlo Pupin (1854-1935)
Serbian scientist and inventor. Profesor at Columbia University. Not only a great scientists but a patriot Serb, who was a close friend of Woodrow Wilson, president of US (1913-1921), which helped Serbia in diplomatic battle after end of WW1.

3)Djordje Petrovic (1762-1817)
Our "Vozd" who started uprising against Turkish outlaws, and when he defeated them, he started both social and political uprising against Ottoman Empire.

4) Milos Obrenovic (1780-1860)
He finished what Djordje Petrovic started. Brilliant diplomat, dear guest everywhere in Europe. Oportunistic but very efficient. Ended feudalism in 1835.

5) Rastko Nemanjic or St. Sava (1175-1236)
First archbiscop of Serbian Orthodox church. Fair enough.

6) Stefan Dusan (1311 -1355)
Most powerful Serbian ruler in history. First Serbian Emperor (Tsar). Expanded Serbian teritory to the Thesalonniki.

7)Petar II Petrovic Njegos (1813-1851)
Serbian poet and statesman from Montenegro. Most important Serbian poet by far. His legacy is monumental to modern Serbian literature.

8) Ivo Andric. (1892-1975)
Only Serbian nobel prize winner. Born in Croatian catholic family. His novel " The Bridge on the Drina", classic of Serbian literature. That novel won Nobel prize over Tolkien "Lord of the rings". How about that?

9) Milutin Milankovic (1879-1958)
One of most renowed world climatologist, astronomer and geophysicist. Made fundamental contribution to world science about "Solar irradiance".

10) Novak Djokovic. Born 1987.

Nice list brother.

For me, Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal would be the most important personality in our history as a nation.

He is our national poet-philosopher who formed the ideological and intellectual basis for Pakistan, not to mention mentored Quaid e Azam.

Well I used to think like that but now with maturity and more knowledge, I rank Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah the highest and much higher than Allama Iqbal for the reason I may explain on some other thread if inquired.

I think 'mentored' isn't the right word to describe their relationship.

We should see Allama Iqbal how Quaid e Azam did.

“To me he was a friend, guide and philosopher and during the darkest moments through which the Muslim League had to go, he stood like a rock and never flinched one single moment and as a result just only three days ago he must have read of been informed of the complete unity that was achieved in Calcutta of the Muslim leaders of the Punjab and today I can say with pride that the Muslims of Punjab are wholeheartedly with the League and have come under the flag of the All-India Muslim League, which must have been a matter of greatest satisfaction to him. In the achievement of this unity Sir Muhammad Iqbal played a most signal part.”

“If I live to see ideal of a Muslim State being achieved in India and I were then offered to make a choice between the works of Iqbal and the rulership of the Muslim state, I would prefer the former.”

“Though he is not amongst us, his verse, immortal as it is, is always there to guide us and to inspire us. His poetry, besides being beautiful in form and sweet in language, presents to us a picture of the mind and heart of this great poet, and we find how deeply he was devoted to the teachings of Islam. He was a true and faithful follower of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him), a Muslim first and a Muslim last. He was the interpreter and voice of Islam.

Iqbal was not merely a preacher and philosopher. He stood for courage and action, perseverance and self-reliance, and above all faith in God and devotion to Islam. In his person were combined the idealism of the poet and the realism of the man who takes a practical view of things. Faith in God and unceasing and untiring action is the essence of his message. And in this he emerges truly Islam. He had an unflinching faith in Islamic principles, and success in life meant to him the realization of one’s “self”, and to achieve this end the only means was to follow the teachings of Islam. His message to humanity is action and realization of one’s self.”

I agree. Allama Iqbal comes first then Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in the list of most important personalities of Pakistan.

And third would be Maulana Maududi and his view of Islam as light and Kuffar as darkness.

This had a major part, pre- and post- partition, in leading to Pakistani exclusivity and uniqueness vis-a-vis Hindu India.

This only shows the greatness of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah that he was humble despite being very strict about principles. Just let me say that without Allama Iqbal, Pakistan would have still been created but without Quad-e-Azam, there won't be any Pakistan.

This was not humility, these were his honest views and his reverence for his teacher. He was not a man to say things he did not mean to say.

Quaid e Azam was a student of Allama Iqbal, they had the same relationship like a mureed with his sheikh.

This in no way lessens the status of Quaid e Azam.

Pakistan was the qudrat (blessed will) of Parve digar, whoever was chosen by Him to assist in His plan on Earth shall be rewarded in the akhirat (afterlife.)

I think you need to learn.

Learn your point of view?

Janab, we have differences in thought and its ok.
You're just derailing the thread. I told that if you want to discuss it, we can discuss it on some other thread but you instead started engaging in this uneducated arguments, not paying any attention that you're doing a disservice.

I'll do it based purely on influence/achievement:

1. Porus (came from the Punjab)

220px-Porus_alexander_coin.png

He put up a viscous fight against Alexander that dissuaded his army from venturing further. If he had not done so, it's quite possible Alexander's army would have been determined to conquer a lot more land, and the world would have ended up very differently as a result.

2. Abu Raja As Sindhi (came from Sindh)

Polymath during the Abbasid era. His translations of many Sanskrit texts played a huge factor in causing the Islamic Golden Age (which had a massive impact on the world). He was also a scholar of Arabic, and translated an interpretation of the meaning of the Quran from Arabic into Sindhi.

3. Akbar (came from Umerkot)

akbar_0.jpg

Akbar turned the Mughal Empire from a failing neo-Timurid dynasty into a vast Indo-Islamic empire that controlled much of the region, and has been a massive cultural influence on the sub-continent that persists to this very day. Much of it's architecture and settlements also come from this era.

4. Muhammad Ali Jinnah (his family originally came from Sahiwal)

Mohammad_Ali_Jinnah%2C_1910.jpg

He founded Pakistan, which is a pretty big deal due to it's massive geopolitical ramifications.

5. Ranjit Singh (came from Gujranwala)

maharajaranjitsingh1.gif

Formed the most powerful empire the Punjab had ever seen, stopped another Afghan attempt to invade the sub-continent (probably the bajillionth time they tried and failed, and like all the other times, if they had won it would have really changed the course of history), greatly expanded Sikh political power and built/expanded many temples (and even some Masajid).

6. Shah Mir (came from Swat)

He started the Shah Miri dynasty, which was responsible for Islamising Kashmir (which has had massive geopolitical ramifications).

7. Zia Ul Haq (came from the Punjab)

zia_ulhaq.jpg

He broke the Soviets in Afghanistan, raised the power of the Mujahideen (the precursor to the Taliban), made Pakistan the world's fastest growing economy and much more Islamically conservative (which still persists to this very day) via the implementation of various policies. His acquisition of F-16s have also had long term consequences.

8. Muhammad Hayat As Sindhi (came from Sindh)

Taught Muhammad Ibn Abdul Wahab, the founder of Wahabism (which has had a massive impact on the world today).

9. Abdul Qadeer Khan (belonged to the Muhajir community)

Father of Pakistan's atomic bomb, he also helped proliferate other countries pursuing nuclear weapons (most notably Iran, which has played a part in causing the current affair taking place).

10. Mehboob Ul Haq (came from the Punjab)

Mahbub-ul-Haq.jpg

Developed the HDI.
