Iceland remains the world's leading country in gender equality, according to the 2012 Global Gender Gap Report released yesterday by the World Economic Forum (WEF).

This is the fourth consecutive year for Iceland to place at the top in overall ranking in the Global Gender Gap Index, followed by Finland which moved up one spot from last year, and Norway in third.

Although no country has yet achieved total gender equality, all of the Nordic nations, with the exception of Denmark, have 80 percent gender equality and thus serve as models and useful benchmarks for international comparison.

China this year fell eight places from 2011, placing 69th overall, and ranked 58th in the area of economic participation and opportunity, 85th in educational attainment, 132nd in health and survival, and 58th in political empowerment.

The Global Gender Gap Report, introduced by the World Economic Forum in 2006, provides a framework for capturing the magnitude and scope of gender-based disparities around the world. It measures national gender equity in the areas of politics, education, employment and health.

. . . . .
The whole term "gender equality" is such a farce

It is impossible to be completely equal, so instead what we are doing is allowing women the privileges of men but without the responsibly.
When the last time there was a law that said that both men and women could be drafted to fight in a war?

We need to find a natural equilibrium where both Men and Women have equal rights and equal responsibilities. If that means that Women are now forced to be drafted then so be it.

Does any one of you know that which country is rape capital of Europe????

"Sweden has the highest rape rate in Europe, author Naomi Wolf said on the BBC's Newsnight programme recently. Is it true? Yes. The Swedish police recorded the highest number of offences - about 63 per 100,000 inhabitants - of any force in Europe, in 2010. The second-highest in the world"

But still it is in Top 10??? How???

I will tell u in next post...

BBC News - Sweden's rape rate under the spotlight

On the face of it, it would seem Sweden is a much more dangerous place than these other countries.

But that is a misconception, according to Klara Selin, a sociologist at the National Council for Crime Prevention in Stockholm. She says you cannot compare countries' records, because police procedures and legal definitions vary widely.

"In Sweden there has been this ambition explicitly to record every case of sexual violence separately, to make it visible in the statistics," she says.

"So, for instance, when a woman comes to the police and she says my husband or my fiance raped me almost every day during the last year, the police have to record each of these events, which might be more than 300 events. In many other countries it would just be one record - one victim, one type of crime, one record."

Cool, you nail it.

'We' the Champion of culture treat women badly. Our police start rape investigation by assuming that "rape didn't happen" while developed country consider opposite. If we consider westren norms, India will full of rapists and abuser...

Idiots (Some morons) misuse religious books (Manu samhita) to defend there moronic behaviour.. Some morons like ZN misuse Koran to defend Abusive and Rapist nature.

Nicaragua and Philiphines are two surprises - especially Nicaragua. Have come a long way since the days of Sandinista. Good for them.

Its not about equality because you cannot equate everything in rigid fashion. Like military service.

This is more about freedom. Economic, Political and Social freedom. I think in India we definitely need women's rights. Gender roles need to be broken and women need, like Karan said, sexual, educational and social rights. India is definitely very conservative. We need to liberalize more.
