No family will eat up 1 kg of daal in one time. A family of 4 will need 0.25 kg of dal in one sitting. Whereas 1 kg of animal will only serve one meal, inadequately.

here in Canada, US ... people I knew in University, ate beef, chicken and pork all the time
I have never met any Hindu who would not eat meat, unless they are around the families.
Most Indian restaurants serves meat dishes and I see Indian families eating in Pakistani restaurants (remember no one goes to Pakistani restaurants for veggie dishes)
