Today, I am proudly Iranian (Pervez Hoodbhoy)

. .
Today, I am proudly Iranian in siding against a global bully that flouts accepted canons of law and decency
He could have written his entire article the same way without this line, and there might be people willing to listen to him. My question is, when Pakistan confronted India, did he say "I am proudly Pakistani in siding against a bully" at that time too?

. . .
The article was written, before this became known.
May be, he would now be repenting.

Unlike most here, I read and sometime even admire Hoodbhoy. Powerful, critical voices are needed in any healthy society, even if we don't always like them. A country which muzzles debate eventually goes to the path of intellectual inbreeding and self-destruction. Also, while Hoodbhoy is often critical of Pakistan, he's also quite harsh on India, especially on the Indian policies in Kashmir.

But on this article I am disappointed with Hoodbhoy. As if Iran had much of a choice other than to de-escalate. In contrast, United States would have suffered strategic losses in the Middle East in case of a regional war but it's a superpower sitting thousands of miles away and would walk away like it did from Vietnam. Iran would be history.

The article's title should be 'I am proud of humanity' which universally exposed Trump's vile nature when he threatened Iran's cultural sites.

PS. Educated Pakistanis should be very careful not to question other Pakistanis' patriotism. There are plenty of sectarian organizations in Pakistan which are full of uneducated, unemployed fanatics, ready to start sectarian bloodbaths which has plagued the Middle East. In a short time, millions of Pakistanis could be turned into Arab Sunnis and Iran Shias if we are not careful. That's a strategic nightmare.

This only happens in a banana republic like Pakistan where every tom dick and harry can open up a madrassh , imam bargah and mosque. They cater to their own sect and divisions.

Besides that , the elite of this country gravitate towards west. So we have poor and middle class Pakistanis who will die for arabs and Persians and then we have rich/elite class of Pakistanis that will sell Pakistan to have a chance of living in the west.

What a nice country we have...Don't we.

To all who are saying that Pervaiz has ignored Iran's atrocities in the region, this is an excerpt from the article:
In choosing to do so I will forget — but for one day and no more — that Iran’s theocratic government crushes civil liberties, has helped prop up Bashar al-Assad’s murderous government in Syria, and seeks to make atomic weapons.

He is is explain Iran's reprisal in light of USA's violation of international law. He is loathing Trump for threat to destroy cultural sites. He is not associating himself with any sect or ethnicity.

Classic shoot the messenger quoting from the article

“Today, I am proudly Iranian in siding against a global bully that flouts accepted canons of law and decency. Outrage at America’s overseas rampages is joining together peoples with hugely different thoughts and beliefs. Vicariously I too have joined the millions thronging Iran’s streets and public squares. In choosing to do so I will forget — but for one day and no more — that Iran’s theocratic government crushes civil liberties, has helped prop up Bashar al-Assad’s murderous government in Syria, and seeks to make atomic weapons.””

Pervez saab is proud Iranian citizen of terrorist regime of Iran but by mistake was born in Pakistan. Yes he is same guy who's 99% of articles consist of anti-Pakistan topics. Yet he find nothing wrong with terrorist regime of crazy mullahs who just killed hundreds of innocents few days ago. The reason is obvious, just google his sectarian affiliation.

But I'm more concerned about your sectarian affiliations and the kind of mullahs who seem to be dominating your mind.
Anyone who labels Iranians to be terrorists while living in South Asia and knowing what both Pakistan and India are capable of and guilty of, and knowing there is a certain Israel which is the king of being a nation of terror outfits, must be either not knowing what goes on around the world or are just a victim of some mullah's manipulation.

Unfortunately , our emotional chest thumping janta fail to understand the metaphoric approach of writer. And when the name of Iran come, then the person is traitor and worst living being. We have too much influence of GCC, because majority of supporters has too much respect for arabs , either they live there or there family member works there or Kaba is there or religious affiliation.. arabs humiliating behavior is totally acceptable for our nation. But, there are good and sensible arab, they are mostly Kuwaits or Iraqis in foreign land with good respectable jobs.

why can't the PDF staff (even when reported a number of times) notice these things where ignorant morons comment without reading or understanding the subject they comment on?

innocent question: is it because of their love of falsehood and conflict?

P.S.
how many times does one report something before it is acknowledged one way or the other?
