Have you ever had a argumant with someone and it just escalated until you loose track of why your even fighting that person? Animosity sort of just takes over and just feeds itself until there is no end. Hate just begets more hate.

Is that the case between India and Pakistan 70 years on? Time for peace? Thoughts ladies and gents.

Peace is always enforced when the opponent and you are at stalemate position. Which is not the case between Pakistan and India. Do we want peace? sure, will we be able to achieve it? No. It's multidimensional issue, regional power game, strategic interests, economic superiority etc. So it will not happen in near future.

Its not unthinkable... but investment into this tension is much that pulling back is hard....
we are enemy in our dramas, films, literature, text books, religion, politics, etc etc..
it would be like turning away from your major life 'part'... thats one thing...
disputed areas/issue is another thing...

It would be great.
It would free up a lot of resources in both nations to do more on other fronts.

For me the animosity between Pakistan has become aimlesss. It has no basis. It has no goal. It has become a ritual. I mean what is the fundamental issue between India and Pakistan? I don't think there is any. It has just become a ritual. You do it because you do it.

It's not about Pakistan and india only, it's about every nation on earth. What's the issue between any nation and their animosities and all the other conflicts in the world? Disputed land issue? ethnic issue? cultural issue? language issue? Any nation state want to be relevant and want to control ultimate power and resources. Which is currently the case with india and her mentality in the region. Either you bow down and lick some balls or either you live with dignity. That's the fundamental issue with every animosity between any nation.

It's like a grudge that has passed from one generation to the next.
Question though is, how would the peace happen? Make the status quo as the current international border, shake hands and get on with other things?

You know you make a great point. There should have been at least dozen states in South Asia like Europe. Better admin efficiency and less clap trap.

That would be a nightmare.
Small states under a big nation will be much better than smaller nations.

Right off I can think of water sharing being a huge problem if big countries are split. If you are not the same people, the emotional aspect to share resources is not that great.

I don't buy into the "religion" clap trap. India has almost as many Muslim as Pakistan. Thus that pretty well negates that excuse. Then we have Kashmir. Let's face the truth. India can't budge Pakistan out of AK by one inch and neither can Pak budge India out of IOk by one Inch. So stalmate for the next 1,000 years. And everybody knows this.

And I opened this thread because I am leaving PDF. I thought after years of peddling and nurturing hate I might do something positive and follow on my natural intellectual thought process. Free it from shackles and see where it goes. So this is intellectual exercise trying be untrammeled by any prejudice or the forces of the status quo.

Why are India and Pakistan not at stalemate position ?

yes. i've been saying this for a long time. even sri lanka should have had a referendum in the north instead of fighting like baboons. at the end of the day, i care about opportunities, jobs, social mobility etc. than some make believe national pride. i live a good life in europe without this pride bullshit and i wish that people in south asia have access to the same opportunities as i do.

what you say is true ? Nehru did a wise job of splitting India into states. That may kicked the can down the road for at least a century.

Your right. I can easily over the next 100 years our countries evolving. Look at Catalonia in Spain. Look at Yugoslavia or even Czeckoslovakia etc. I can certainly see K-Pk breaking off. Or states in South India breaking off. Or Karachi turning into a Balkan style bloodfest.
