Time for Europe to Join the Resistance
U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal marks the temporary suspension of the trans-Atlantic alliance. What now?
A DER SPIEGEL Editorial by Klaus Brinkbäumer

...
Europe should begin preparing for a post-Trump America and seek to avoid provoking Washington until then. It can demonstrate to Iran that it wishes to hold on to the nuclear deal and it can encourage mid-sized companies without American clients to continue doing business with Iranian partners. Perhaps the EU will be able to find ways to protect larger companies. Europe should try to get the United Nations to take action, even if it would only be symbolic given that the U.S. holds a Security Council veto. For years, Europe has been talking about developing a forceful joint foreign policy, and it has become more necessary than ever. But what happens then?

The difficulty will be finding a balance between determination and tact. Triumphant anti-Americanism is just as dangerous as defiance. But subjugation doesn't lead anywhere either - because Europe cannot support policies that it finds dangerous. Donald Trump also has nothing but disdain for weakness and doesn't reward it.

Clever resistance is necessary, as sad and absurd as that may sound. Resistance against America.

Very difficult..as since ww2..US has sponsored the peace in Europe and Germany trying to take a lead would spark another serious political row..

Surely EU is a grantor of peace between Europeans more so than US, bigger hurdle it seems for Europe to take a stand against US is its economic and military integration with US. There is no difference of opinion about Iran nuke deal among Europeans.

. . .
USA will impose more such sanctions. European companies will be left all with either to migrate towards USA or, die. USA is making their survival more and more difficult in Europe. I foresee France, to be taking a leading role in all that. (May be I am wrong).

.
Europe is just an extension of U.S., So this won't happen.

. .
Members of French and German parliament at US Atlantic council discussing consequences of killing the deal. Kind of regionalism could develop in EU if USA is (too) assertive.

"End of world order" - German chancellor.
EU could cooperate with Russia and China to undermine USA.
Issue of sovereignty for EU.
EU could develop alternate economic institutions which Europe as a region and not USA heads.

@Cthulhu Watch this very interesting talk.

"European sovereignty, European pride, European this, European that, Blah Blah Blah", Nice bed time story! These talks are just candies for the baby, Some talks by the white slaves of the Yankees to keep us in a failed deal while their master slowly builds up the pressure and if we want to get out of this failed deal then, They're going to blame things on us, Like how they say "Iranians want to kill the deal" right now.
First of all, Anyone who wants to talk about any kind of negotiations in Iran again is going to have a straight meeting the firing squad, So these "sovereign" slaves can forget about their complementary deal. Secondly, Hassan Rohani, Our stupid President, The idiot that we put in power, Better not fall for these stories and get out of this failed deal while he can before it is too late, And start making some nukes before the Yankees and their white slaves attack our country and add us to their collection of slaves.

Update: Here we go: "The deal just makes sense if it's not violated by Iran." But it makes perfect sense when it is violated by U.S, And if Iran wants to use it's right and get out of this failed deal that failed because of U.S, It's Iran's fault!

In a few decades, Germany is going to be a third world country. It's influence on global affairs has already massively declined. From being the strongest and most prosperous nation in the world during the reign of Hitler to becoming the cancer of Europe.

Nonsense, germany is the engine of europe and will remain so.They are not politically that influential out of CHOICE.Its best not to wake the eagle. If the germans wanted to rebuild their military machine they could do it in 5-10 years. They don't because of lack of popular or political will and letting the americans bear the bulk of military expenditure costs suits them.

US cannot do shit about it. Shut all of their embassies, kick the rapists out of your lands, threaten Israel and you would see, who begs first.
US war machine has done plenty of crimes in EU after and before WW2 and rape is a simple example of it, EU is tired of war, like everyone else, they need freedom of capitalism cancer. Its signs are seen in France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain and a few others.

@cocomo Its close to see it real bud. Soon enough, we are in 2018, 2020 and 2021 would be wonder of all times in human history, there is an other Soviets to fall, not other than bully US regime. Ignore trolls, follow the protests all over EU

.
This would be difficult. EU's most powerful country i.e. Germany has still not returned to normalcy after WW2. Sure, they are an economic powerhouse but remain heavily dependent on the United States. The rest may have a voice within EU but cannot represent EU's stand to the US.

Unless and until Germans start creating their own pole of influence, it will be difficult.
