WASHINGTON DC: US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will visit Islamabad next week during an Asian trip that will also take him to India, a senior official at the US State Department said on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump thanks Pakistan for ‘doing more’

As part of a South Asia strategy unveiled by Trump in August, Tillerson is expected to press Islamabad, which denies aiding the Taliban, to take stronger steps against militants and allied groups and intensify efforts to pressure them to agree to peace talks with Kabul. “We expect Pakistan to take decisive action against militants groups based there that threaten its own people and the broader region,” Tillerson said on Wednesday.

Relations between Pakistan and the United States were on the precipice not long ago, but on October 11, the fragile ties took a dramatic turn when Pakistan successfully rescued an American-Canadian couple. The swift action by the Pakistani security forces after information was provided by US intelligence drew instant applause from President Donald Trump. That event suddenly sparked a sense of optimism from both sides.

On Wednesday, US Vice President Mike Pence spoke to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on the phone to thank him on behalf of the US government for the rescue of the couple. Pence also accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan in the near future.

The flurry of recent US drone and conventional airstrikes targeting TTP and Haqqani network hideouts close to the Pak-Afghan border are part of the new understanding developed by the two countries to eliminate militant groups on either side of the frontier, judging from the tone of background interactions with security and foreign office officials.

For the last few days, the US and Afghan forces have been pounding militant hideouts in Paktia and Khost regions, considered strongholds of the Haqqani network. TTP also has a strong presence in these Afghan provinces, which border Kurram Agency and North Waziristan.

Umar Khalid Khurasani, the chief of the TTP breakaway faction Jamaatul Ahrar, was reportedly killed in one of the drone strikes in Paktia.

However, there has been no official confirmation about the powerful militant commander’s death.

The elimination of TTP sanctuaries and its leadership on the Afghan side has been one of Pakistan’s major demands.

I thought it was decided that If US asks for do more, Pakistan will say no more. What happened to that approach? Did the GOP backtracked and gave in to the US pressure?
If they did it wont be surprising considering where the priorities lie for our ruling elite but still lets see.

Drones followed by a nice Do more list.
Probably US wants Pakistan to pick one of either.

.
Pakistan helping them and they are helping Pakistan and taking actions against terrorists safe heaven in Afghanistan.....wish Americans have done that earlier.

.
American administration need to watch their words and statements very carefully. Wrong choices of words and statements, just like the one by that Indian troll Nikki Halley can spoil all the good work done, if there is any.

For me seems like, in view of current political situation based upon corruption investigation and punishments against corrupt leaders including ruling party, politicos will do anything opposing military's approach. PM or anyone else will be doubling the game through any means like FM said something contrary to what Abbasi (PM) is up-to but in the end, it is all to please the first world power to put pressure upon PA hence, seeking a escape ticket from the mess of their own inside the country. It is a win win for the handlers.

Tillerson will of course be all smiles but read this :
  • Few News that will find way to main stream media over time is
    • POTUS Trump has done numerous U Turns and latest seems to have taken the air out of PM NM confidence levels on growing USA India relationship.
    • POTUS Trump wants America first and wishes maximum jobs in America and limited work in India TASL for MII Program
    • In reality he wishes to meet MII terms in a way which benefits his America first campaign more.
    • He wants F-16 program shifted to India superficially as long as things are produced in America and generate American Employment.
    • POTUS has expressed dis-satisfaction via Embassy officials for non cooperation in Afghanistan front where POTUS wanted India to commit at least 5000 boots officially.
    • On Top in a big shift POTUS also explained that India can be member of Security Council but without any Veto Power and this is what China and Russia also wants personally.
    • NSG deal is still under consideration but India needs to demonstrate the USA shift before any more "hard work" is to be done by USA for making other members agree on India inclusion.
    • To further the cause, POTUS sanctioned EMALS tech to India for its IAC-2 carrier but wants F-18 SH selected for IAC-1 (57 MRCBF) with minimal offsets.
    • There are more strategic issues as well with emphasis to contain Pakistan verbally but doing limited work in reality.
    • For Gripen as well POTUS made it clear that he will actively discourage personally all American MIC for any deal but in media he will do a PR work and say otherwise.
    • All this discussion over last fortnight with US officials and PMO has dented PM NM confidence in a big way.
  • This body blow has come in a bad time when FGFA deal is becoming increasingly difficult and also Russia wants more of deals without any offsets.
  • Russia has now offered Mig-35 for IAF again in 1st week of October with revised offer of Engine tech like MKI deal and have asked India to look at this deal if FGFAfalters.
  • In lieu of all this PM NM has gone soft and said go slow with LM and Boeing deals till he gets more clarity and avoid U Turns from POTUS.
  • This is a marked shift from earlier G2G route he wanted to take and close out things asap for a concrete media blitz before 2019 polls.
That's from Parikrama our ex-colleague as posted in a ...
huh ... say other Desi forum.

I am talking about do more mantra. Yes if this relationship goes on equal footing and partners and not just master and slave, we are good to do however if they insist on doing more from us, we should say no more, Period!

. . .
Does that mean we will see indian boots on the ground in Afghanistan?

125 F35 lightening fighters with tot and

35 reaper combat drones

And India may decide to send in the army into Afghanistan.

Pakistan will not be too happy
