Tibet 'Chinese issue' says Dalai

The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, has said the Tibetan issue is a Chinese domestic problem.

His statement, given in an interview with the BBC, may breathe new life into the deadlocked talks between him and the government in Beijing.

But he also said Beijing's policy on ethnic minorities was a "failure".

The Dalai Lama has been campaigning for "meaningful autonomy" for Tibetans within China, but talks ended last year in bitter accusations from Beijing.

Between 2002 and 2008, nine rounds of negotiations were conducted between Chinese officials and his representatives.

They degenerated from the initial cautious welcome to recriminations from the Chinese side.

Waiting for signals

In an exclusive interview with the BBC Chinese.com, the Dalai Lama said: "The Chinese government considers our problem a domestic one. And we also."

From the late 1980s, his "middle way" approach to the Tibet issue has gained international sympathy and eventually won him the Nobel Peace Prize.

But his proposals, including autonomy for Tibetans outside the present boundary of the Tibet Autonomous Region, have been described by Beijing as a "back door to splitting the motherland".

The mood worsened last year after the riots in Lhasa and other Tibetan communities surrounding Tibet.

The 74-year-old Dalai Lama put on a brave face during the wide-ranging and candid interview.

However, he admitted there had been no contact with Beijing after the talks with the Chinese government became deadlocked last year.

"We are simply waiting" for Beijing to send signals, he said.

On the future of the relationship between the Chinese government and the Tibetan community, the Dalai Lama pointed out that there were growing signs of frustration and resentment among the younger generation.

As long as he lived they would follow his instructions on non-violence, he said, but after he was gone they would have a free hand, something he called "quite serious".

The Tibet issue reflects wider ethnic problems in China.

While acknowledging the Chinese Communist Party as adaptive to new realities, the Dalai Lama described China's policy on ethnic minorities as "a failure".

He said Beijing's approach to the autonomous regions of Xinjiang and Tibet was not realistic.

"They always look from only one angle - how to keep, how to control. Only that angle. They don't care about what the local people are feeling."

Nevertheless, the Dalai Lama called the recent riots in Xinjiang "very sad", saying he totally disagreed with violence and that "that kind of riot is no help to solving the problem".

The Chinese embassy in the UK was shown the interview and asked for a response, but declined to do so.

Knowing what I know, I've seen this before -- before the 2008 Beijing Games, his "unholy bastardness" DL said the said thing, calling for "peace" -- WE KNOW WHAT HAPPENED A FEW WEEKS LATER...... he instigated the deadly riots.

Take precaution, another pre-meditated terror attack is going to happen soon! :police: When will DL and his Zionists-handlers going to learn that humanity's will to persevere is stronger than anything they can throw at us?! Sure, DL can kill thousands of us, but he CAN NOT kill all of us (and certainly not our spirits). :agree:

If born makes the place yourself, then fact is that Mount Kailash (Home of Lord Shiva) has been mentioned in the history of Indians. But that doesn't mean we need to claim that part.

P.S. Advani born in Pakistan and Mushraff born in India. So, it's no way we can divide the nation on the basis of born or so..

Friend yet again begging??? Stop begging. Claim it by taking controll of it lol. Why did china build so big military? To beg? What a 'shame'. By the way friend our dalai lama been hated by 1.5 billion people (china and pakistan) but rest of world loves our dalai lama (5.2 billion). China should come in india and take away our dalai lama if they can (have gutts). Trust me it will be the end of china not only by india but also whole world who loves our dalai lama. Your chinese president goes abroad and he gets bad words and shoes hurdle at him. When our dalai lama goes abroad all people kisses his feets and bow in front of him. Thats the power of dalai lama. 1 man standing against china. Thats the power of dalai lama.

Again this Hindu Fanatic is using some random posting on an OPEN FORUM as representing ALL OF CHINESE PEOPLE. As people here are knowledgeable of Bharat's terrorist activities in Balochistan, LTTE, BD, Kashmir and DL in Tibet --- it would only be natural if someone thought "what if we did the same to them?!" :bunny::bunny::bunny::bunny:

Now, a fractured Bharat will only result in suffering for the people and tens of millions of Indian Refugees flooding into neighboring countries. Not to mention the danger of nuclear weapons going into the hands of local warloards and religious fanatics or sold overseas.

I like this policy of patience by China.

As a complete Neutral cool as a cucumber person! I have to say, no one in the whole world can beat China and the Chinese at being patient!

:china:

Just for this reason, the Chinese have averted many wars, multitudes of destruction laden mishaps and so on.

thumb up to them for such a good policy  :china:

Nice ranting and great raving... But these are ranting and raving only, to the most.

This is how "all people kisses his feets and bow in front of him", including Tibetans:

Many people are waking up to the truth. Unfortunately many are filled with blind racial-hatred to open their eyes! However, I'm surprised to see so many Buddhist monks (and from the "lamaism branch" at that!) speaking out.

I beg to differ slightly.

India shouldn’t be broken up into 20-30 states. That will cause huge refugee problems. And those refugees are of low quality, unlike those from East Europe where literacy is high. It will cause big burden on its neighboring countries, especially Pakistan which already generously shouldered pressure from Afghan, and Bangladesh where population seems already a pressure.

Rich Indians have mostly set up their bank accounts in developed countries with foreign passports. They will be least affected. Only the poor will be left behind. Without a stable India or Indias, there will not be a stable South Asia.

Having above said, discriminated “mongoloids” should be allowed to manage their own life, culture and tradition, as they are not considered Indian citizens by typical or “standard” Indians. More importantly, those Mongoloids are marginalized and disliked by mainstream society. That can be corroborated by many posts from just this forum. For instance, when commenting on residents of AP cross boarder over to China, many Indian members can’t seal their glee to see them off.

The independence of those regions, if rightly done, will help mainstream India greatly: 1) they have more similar identity and closer sense of affinity among remaining them on a purer land of Bharat; 2) external threat will be greatly reduced following the formation of buffer zone(s) mentioned by Dalai Lama. Perhaps Dalai Lama can be head of one of the zones, such as Zang Nan or part of AP. Thus, China will be happy, India/Indias will be happy, and Dalai Lama will be happy. 3) Military spending in India/Indias will be vastly diverted into civilian use…

With things rightly done, there is a glorious future for the Indians: with the wisdom of Indians, deposit of thousands of years of civilization and support of the resources now available in material and mentality, India/Indias will surely reach unprecedented achievements in modern/future human history in both literacy, nutrition, science, technology, religion, democracy,…, etc. India/Indias will be the destination for education or training on all or many these fields by the people all over the world including the Americans and Europeans, not to mention the Chinese. Being a number one (or two) country on the topic of illiteracy and starvation can only be found in a molded smelly book of ancient history in a neglected corner of World Museum of Great India(s).

…just let’s have a critical thinking
