ISLAMABAD: Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs has unanimously adopted Ehtram-e-Ramzan (Amendment) Bill, 2017 under which monetary penalty has been hiked from Rs500 to Rs25000 for hotel owners who would violate Ehtram-e-Ramazan Ordinance, 1981.

Under the amended bill, anyone who will eat openly in public places during Ramzan hours would be imprisoned for three-months and pay a fine of Rs500.

Likewise, media outlets or cinema houses will pay a minimum fine of Rs500,000 upon violation of law.

Senator Tanveer Khan had introduced amended bill during senate sitting back on Jan-16 this year. The bill was forwarded for further consideration to standing Committee on Religious Affairs.

Wrong decision, you can't force non muslims and those who don't fast to observe fasting forcefully we are not Saudis and this jerk Nawaz is trying to make Pakistan another saudia with no personal freedome.

P.s respecting ramadan and those who fast is necessary but no force

No one is forcing anyone to fast, they just said not to eat or smoke in public areas.

The prohibition of any kind need to be enforced (if at all) on producers/sellers rather than on consumers. Ban the sale of food during ramzan. one can sell food but if someone eats it, goes to jail.

nothing new mate every one in Pakistan has taken it upon himself to enforce his way of life on the others. the concept private life or choice are alien to pakistani community since 1970s.

The meaning of sawm (roza) is to abstain from eating not to stop others from eating.
Pakistani state makes some shitty laws and tries to give it a religious color without any backing.

If you can't control yourself because someone else is eating while you are fasting, you already have lost the purpose of sawm (roza/fasting).

Happens in Duabi dont see Pakistanis moaning about it there when the security guards in malls come and tell westerners off for drinking water in a shopping mall infront of people.

You've got to be some sort of little troll to want to go out in Pakistan during ramadan hours and eat and drink infront of people fasting in 47c heat.

crying about this law but what will happen to you lot on the day of judgement, you can't justify to Allah why you wanted to eat and drink in public in Ramadan

What about the minorities who does not do fasting during Ramadan ? If you get tempted so easily seeing food then it is your problem and not their's. They have not asked you to do fasting. State is just putting these nonsense thoughts on others throats.
