"The last Muslim state of Al-Andalusia was the Nasrid Emirate of Granada, which fell in 1492 after 781 years of Muslim political presence in the Iberian Peninsula.
A decade later, the [Christian] Castilians outlawed Islam in Spain in 1502.
The Muslims (Arabs and Berbers) that remained in Spain were forced to convert to Roman Catholicism or be killed. The Muslims who converted to Christianity after 1492 were known as as the ‘Moriscos’.
The last place of Morisco resistance was in the Alpujarras Mountains, in the outskirts of Granada.
What does the above have to do with Uyghur Muslims of Xinjiang (occupied East Turkestan) being forced to drink alcohol and eat pork by the Chinese authorities?
Well, one of the policies which the Castilians enforced was that twice a year, they would send soldiers to the Alpujarras Mountains to “inspect” whether pigs were being farmed, sold AND physically consumed during meals.
Castilian soldiers would enter the homes of Moriscos to witness them eating pork as a show of ‘loyalty’ to the ‘new state’ and ‘adherence’ to Christianity. Anyone who retched, vomited or reacted badly to consuming pork, were arrested, imprisoned and eventually killed. Those who resisted arrest were killed on the spot.
The Castilians were so dissatisfied with the conversion and assimilation of Muslims, King Philip III of Spain expelled the Moriscos in 1609.
This took place more than 500 years ago brothers and sisters."
