What's new

this temple is going to outshine Taj Mahal !

But I am not yet convinced that the attempt to make a temple look like a cathedral is not a way to diminish the Hindu Philosophy and values the temple is expected to nurture and spread.
Nothing like that. You are looking at it from a very narrow key hole. Das is a devout Hindu now. His personal taste will naturally be influenced by his past. Apart from the shallow exterior, the heart of the temple architecture is very much Hindu. And in fact instead of subverting Hinduism as you are suggesting, a point can be made that it is Christianity that is being subverted. Indeed, ISKCON has millions of followers, acting as a bridge for many converted ex Christians into the Hindu fold.

The major benefit will be a greater interest in Hindu cosmology and diversification of Hindu thinking, encompassing multiple cultures. That is a good thing. For Hinduism. As well as for the world in general.

You are confusing the issue.

Alankara is a very important principle for replicating and appreciating Beauty. Since the Human eyes, ears, tongue etc has natural limitations the way we recognise and respond to beauty is limited by our panchendriya (5 senses).

By the spectrum of visible light we can see, the frequencies we can hear etc.

The Architecture of the temple is correctly the representation of the cosmos and the garbha griha as the centre of this cosmos where the Deity sits. Since we view and understand the cosmos with our limited senses and since our body is made in proportion to the cosmos and in relation to it, the Temple architecture also represents the self and ability to recharge the self.

I did not say the temple is not representation of cosmos or that it does not represent self and ability to recharge the self. I just added Alankara is important too. Aesthetics is alamkara shastra, that is ornamentation of the central synthesizing principle by means of the particular medium.

I am looking at it from the key hole of Hindu Temple Architecture which is a detailed scripture which focuses on building the Temple as per Hindu Philosophy.

Every aspect of the Temple to its design, layout, structure etc. is to be as per Hindu philosophy.

The ISKON structure has NOTHING to indicate that Hindu philosophy was the key guiding philosophy for designing this "temple". It appears as a poor replica of a Christian Cathedral which people relate to Christian philosophy.

It is possible the temple is designed to attract more European christians into Hinduism fold but it cannot be at the cost of Subverting Hinduism itself. ISKON neo converts has a poor history of imbibing and teaching Hindu values.

The PURPOSE of a Temple is not ART.

ART is secondary.

When you put ART before Religion in constructing a Temple its a mockery of Hindu values.

The purpose of temple is both Art as well as Worship. It is not a mockery of Hindu values that these principles are intertwined and inbuilt into its value system. Hinduism has always said Satyam Shivam Sundaram. That which is beautiful is Shiva and the truth.

Sorry, you lack general understanding of Hindu cosmology. There is no diversification of Hindu thinking needed. We are as it is diverse enough. There is no principle in building a church. They do not have any such underlying value system the church building is meant to represent other than awe and conveying the supremacy of God.

In the Svetasvatara Upanishad "Satyam Shivam Sundaram" means the VERY OPPOSITE of what you are claiming.

It means TRUTH ALONE IS BEAUTIFUL. Everything else is NOT.

Shiva is covered in Ashes and wears the skin of dead animals and has long unkept hair ....... he is the very embodiment of "unclean" but he alone is Beautiful.

Not Art.

This is what happens when people interpret Hinduism with christian values. You just prove what I had said. Sad but true.

Aesthetically speaking, it should have been placed in an open area for better visibility.

Hinduism has been evolving since its inception thousands of years ago .

So Evolution in Art and Architecture is no big deal .

Nope, you are one of those Hindus who interpret samasara as worth nothing and have adopted Christian values disdaining life on earth. Whereas everything about Hindu architecture screams out beauty and joyous life. Bliss and beauty is at the center of Hindu values. Be it Sat Chit Ananda or Satyam Shivam Sundaram. It is replication of this vision of God which leads to creation of beauty and hence beauty is a focus in all temples and every single ritual of ours.

:o::o::o: Angry Young Man , Please Calm down

You need to grow up and learn where and what you are talking. What was the evolution in this temple design and what did Hinduism gain from it?

We are almost there. We will be more diverse. :)

They say you should keep an open mind but not so open that your brain falls out. Likewise, there is a point where diversity becomes a dogma and demagoguery.

No point in being a Frankenstein without any coherent philosophy. Start one more religion if you are seeking diversity.

ISKCON is a sub group of Vaishnavas . What they do doesn't influence majority of Vaishanavas .
Hinduism might not gain anything but India is sure to gain from this Architecture .
