This is not Bangladesh

. . .
Very unfortunate, appears that Pakistan is also vulnerable to climate change despite what those, who twerk on about natural disasters in Bangladesh, on here might suggest.

Pakistan and western India will be devastated by climate change.

Their summers will be hell.

Rapid desertification meaning - loss of farm land.

And snow melting will devastate them with floods.

In BD i have seen the devastation caused by rivers changing course on one bank and bringing boon to the other bank.

My family pays land tax every year for land by the bank of the river that stays above water level a few years and then below a few years. The productivity of these lands make up for the impermanence. This has always been thus.

However, BD is climate vulnerable in two areas. First due to reduction of water by india which is utterly criminal. It is impacting our country and food production. Many parts of northwest BD has become very dry due to this man made pheonemena.

Secondly sea water rising. Sediments taken in to the bay whilst acting as a natural barrier can not protect us from more frequent storm surges. What happens then is that sea water floods arable land and kills the crops and the salt makes those land less productive. BD answered these challenges by producing rice varieties that can tolerate high salinity and farming prawns and shrimp vatieties compatible with these conditions.

BD is a climate victim, it is also at the forefront of climate adaptations.

No one knows what the future will hold but we have to prepare for all eventualities. BD and the subcontinent is particularly vulnerable not because climate change is only happening here but because so many people live here and any little thing is hugely impactful.

Climate change is affecting the whole world and no single country will be immune to its effects. Assuming Bangladesh is part of the world it too is facing and will continue to face increasing affects.

Bangladesh is rated 7th most likely country to be affected by climate change.

"Over the last two decades, the Global Climate Risk Index rates Bangladesh as the seventh most affected country in the world from extreme weather events. Depending on the extent of sea level rise in the coming decades, an estimated 15 to 30 million Bangladeshis could be displaced from coastal areas, if not more. A 2018 U.S. government report noted that 90 million Bangladeshis (56 percent of the population) live in “high climate exposure areas,” with 53 million subject to “very high” exposure. The United Nations Children’s Fund’s 2021 Children’s Climate Risk Index rates the climate risk facing children in Bangladesh “extremely high”— the index’s most severe rating."

Horrible pictures are coming out of Pakistan's flood. famous honeymoon hotel swept away by floods tells it was built on the river bed. some other structure also seems buil on either river bed or very near to river side which can be dangerous during rainy season .

BD will be one of the best placed countries to deal with climate change as sedimentation from Himalayas and sea defences will actually mean that BD land mass will increase over this century.

Also it has abundant water resources for farming purposes unlike lots of other countries.
Only if we invest on barriers to hold the sediments we actually can be better off then other climate effected.

The way climate change happening northern part of India and large parts of pakistan may become unhabitable due to extreme heat. They have already impacted the crop production last year hense the crisis in wheat.

You can claim land from the sea, but how would you tackle if you cant grow crops???
