Trump is looking forward overseas partners and good deals to strengthen his domestic hand. That's probably why he chose to drop by the KSA in his first foreign visit. Doing business with them in billions should be easier than negotiating with China or other more pragmatic governments in East Asia.

This may give some leeway for Duterte to actually clean up the separatist mess at home once and for all. But, he needs to be quick and decisive.

Nonetheless, CIA is more than the US government, hence, what Trump thinks of Duterte may have no bearing on what the US power elites think of him.

In any case, a strong home base would make it more difficult for the US to intervene and threaten Duterte government.

Very true. The US powerful elites have recently shown their true colour, like they are more than capable to force the "people elected"-president into a submission. All those media and manipulation of their population show us that they can twist the people's mind easily. Not to mention, the FBI, CIA and even Congress are all in their control. I'm not familiar with the Media in Philippine, but if their media are western oriented, then Duterte should be in a serious trouble. Not to mention, I heard that Philippine's military are pro-American and the general public favour the USA a lots. Then the CIA is only waiting a perfect chance to strike, like what happen in Turkey, but will the military loyal to the President where I have my doubt.
