There have been more mass shootings than days this year

BY JASON SILVERSTEIN

UPDATED ON: DECEMBER 1, 2019 / 12:38 PM / CBS NEWS

The number of mass shootings across the U.S. thus far in 2019 has outpaced the number of days this year, according to a gun violence research group. Before this year has even ended, 2019 has already had more mass shootings than any year since the research group started keeping track.

As of December 1, which is the 335th day of the year, there have been 385 mass shootings in the U.S., according to data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which tracks every mass shooting in the country. Twenty-nine of those shootings were mass murders.

The GVA defines a mass shooting as any incident in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter. The group also tracks mass murders as defined by the FBI — incidents in which at least four people are killed. The FBI does not have a formal definition of a mass shooting.

The toll of 385 mass shootings includes several high-profile attacks, two of which happened within 24 hours of each other:

  • A shooting in a historic district of Dayton, Ohio, on August 4, with nine people killed and 27 injured.
  • A shooting at Walmart in El Paso, Texas, on August 3, with 22 people killed and at least 24 wounded. It was the deadliest shooting of the year.
  • A shooting in a municipal building in Virginia Beach, on May 31, where a former city employee killed 12 people and wounded four.
The GVA said there have been a total of 35,943 gun deaths — including homicides, suicides and accidents — and 27,061 injuries, as of December 1.

With one month left, 2019 already has the highest number of mass shootings in any year since 2014, when the Gun Violence Archive started its count. It has surpassed the prior record of 382 mass shootings in 2016. The GVA reported 346 mass shootings in 2017 and 337 in 2018.

real worse countrys are

Venzuela (62killed each 100.000)

The death rate is comparative to Afghanistan. Does that seem normal to you? In a country where there is a civil war waging?

Look at this table, no other developed country is anywhere near them.

Also WTH is going on in Russia?!

why comparing to Afgahnistan...why not praising USA that they have half of the murder rate of Russia.... about 5 murdered per 100.000 citizen is an average number around the world...taken into account the degree of guns and rifels avaible in the USA which put every other country into its shadow... sure with stricter gun laws the murder rate in the USA would be most likely closer to European standarts between 3 to 0 per 100.000... but it isn´t as bad as this bijng propaganda troll trys to picture

so Mexico, Brazil, Russia or other are no developt countrys according to you?

USA rank 89

Philipines rank 57
Russia rank 51
Iraq rank 42
Mexico rank 19
Brazil rank 13

any Chance US might do any changes in Gun laws ?

The problem is gun Rights are in our constitution so restricting can only go so far.

Sure you can restrict 10 inch knives but people will simply use 9 inch knives. When they ban 9 inch people will use 8.

You have to do something about schools though. That's the worst thing.

True, Americans love their guns and Constitution back them up ..

but regulations can be done such as assault Rifles or strict background checks . But even that too is blocked by NRI most of the time :(

Capitalism itself is not bad but when capitalism goes pervert, this kind of tragic mass shootings take place. America has some serious social issues underneath all the flashy things. Unfortunately, it will only increase in the future. I myself live in the US by the way.
