Company’s subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover has been the source of overall profits for the past few years. But with Brexit threatening losses to it next year, Tata Motors may not be able to hold out any longer. This will also threaten the proposed plans to sell shells of the car to a third party that wanted to sell the Nano as an electric car.

The dream of selling the world’s cheapest car may just have been a bridge too far even for Tata Motors.

. . .
this is business , why tata should bear the losses .

. . .
Ratan Tara's dream of a car under 1 lakh was not viable then and now after so many years it's next to impossible. So, even now if somebody buys a nano for 2.5 lakhs everybody would say look the guy bought a 1 lakh ruppees car making him look like a cheapo.

. . .
To be honest Didi killed it.

That happened when the promised 1 lac price band was breached.

Its a mental thing. It does not matter that most 180+ cc motorcycles in India now cost 1 lac plus.

Cheers, Doc

. .
They should have designed it asan electric car from start perhaps experimented with lead acid batteries to keep the price down and marketed it as an eco-eco car

That would have killed it even sooner.
Should have launched it at 2 lakh with the specs that came later which made it a good car.

The only reason it's not selling now is the image.

fine, it was launched a decade ago. So its time is already over. Newer version must come in and they will come.
