Jeddah's Kingdom Tower, set to become the world’s tallest building, will be completed midway through 2017, according to the chairman of one of the major shareholders in the project.
In a statement today, Kingdom Holding's HRH Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal said that the 1,000m high skyscraper in the Red Sea port city would be finished “in 63 months”.

Kingdom Holding also announced that developer Saudi Bin Laden Group has bought a 16.63 percent stake in the project for SAR1.5bn (US$400m).
Prince Alwaleed’s Kingdom Holding has a 33.35 percent stake in Jeddah Economic Company, the firm set up to build the Kingdom Tower project.

The other shareholders are Abraar International Holding Company, also with 33.35 percent, and Jeddah businessman Abdulrahman Hassan Sharbatly with 16.67 percent.
Kingdom Holding said today that the final license from Jeddah municipality to build the Kingdom Tower was formally received on February 19.
The mixed use development will have a total construction area of more than 500,000 sqm and will house a Four Seasons hotel, serviced apartments, office space, luxury condominiums and the world’s highest observation deck.
Kingdom Tower will form part of the wider Kingdom City project, a 56m sq ft, SAR75bn development which will include a number of other residential and commercial buildings.
On completion, Kingdom Tower will trump Dubai's 830m Burj Khalifa to become the tallest free-standing structure in the world.
It may not hold the record for long however, with an Azerbaijani firm recently announcing plans to build a 1,030m structure in the Caspian Sea nation's capital Baku.

loool what the hk r u trying to say saudi arabia never went bankrupt little boy! from where did u get ur info

man great marvel of engineering... i like it.. costly surely.. hope they could also make it profitable... but seems too beautiful (keeping aside its cost to benefit analysis for a moment)

Honestly, this is like a phallus measuring contest. There are plenty of poor people in KSA this money can go to.

What does that have to do with this thread?
Its not the government building the project, its a company making an investment.
Should companies start donating money to the poor instead of making a profit?

loll pakistan has its own way of development. they think companies should stop investing in big projects and country in defence until entire country is rich. no wonder their economy is a massive failure.

Wouldn't you stop this plz? and think in a reasonable way. Can you mention just a country in the world with no poor people?
Another thing, why Pakistan, Indonisia...etc are building skyskrapers while the majority of people in those countries are poor? Why is everything GCC do wrong according to you?

Sorry for bit off topic post so no need to rely back

I don't understand the logic of Arabs always wanting to be the best purchasers. Look at Europe... in London there is hardly any building above 250 meters. Look at France... Same... Look at Germany... same

But still they are known as few of the world's most advanced countries. They don't have anything to show off... There is hardly in these countries that you can say is the best in the world and yet they are very strong. Why can't Arabs have a craze of rising quality of their institutions, education, health etc before they start making tallest buildings, bridges, hotels and so on..

You don't become advanced by having beautiful streets, tallest buildings or Seven star hotels. These things comes automatically if you rise in science and technology, quality of life style, education and stronger economy. Arabs are simply awarding contracts to European companies to let them build tall buildings and let them portray Arabs as a different nation opposing to the reality.

Take an example of Saudi Arabia, why they need this building when they are 3x larger than Pakistan by land and 6x smaller than Pakistan in terms of population. Why they need such buildings when their population density is already so slow?

My personal opinion only
