The West isn't failing, it's systems are still as good as it's always been more or less, it's people may have gotten even better at certain things, but it looks like the opposite is true.
This to me is an illusion.
For more than 200 years, industrial revolution has created a gap between Europeans and the rest, for thousands of years, the world has been on more or less equal grounds, but with the industrial revolution, the game changed forever.
The west has an advantage like the Harlem Globetrotters to the Washington Generals. They can impose their will at will, and they are the only source of manufactured goods.
The rest of the world either became irrelevant or just a colony in reality if not name, and some even in name.
This coincided with the age of revolution that put China, one of two ancient empires irrelevant, while the other India became a colony to the British. All the while the rest of the non European nations fared little better.
So in reality, the West's limited population is basically getting fat and rich on the backs of the majority of the world's population. Much like a coorporation would be.
Today, the scale has not tipped, but becoming leveled once again. There is no Chinese miracle, just Chinese catching up. There is no Asia economic miracle, just an Asia becoming normal again.
The obvious example, "Chinese miracle," there is no such thing. While Europe has the rare philosopher kings, all Chinese emperors are well educated, some are the leaders in learning. Education has been important throughout history in China, for the selection of officials are done via national exam open to anyone who can pass an entry exam.
While capitalism with money, banks and a system of sort has been in place more or less for the same if not more time as the west.
What this means is, unlike the native Americans the West encountered, China and India has a effective and able social system and governing body. So the only thing setting us apart has been the rapid advance in technology the last 200 years or so.
The east and west has been largely equal for thousands of years, but having way more people in the east we had the obvious advantage. Same is probably true for India.
The only thing missing was the industrial revolution, I won't go into why it didn't happen in the east, but the important thing is that it didn't.
Now that the east has more or less beginning to catch up on the industrial ladder, some are saying it is the failure of the Western leaders, but in fact the opposite is true. A lot of the leaders has actually been effective, it's just that with the distance between the West and East in terms of technology dropping at a rapid rate, the playing field will soon be leveled.
With a leveled playing field, China and India with our massive population and land, the economic distribution will just be back to what it use to be. With China and India taking the lion's share.
So to anyone who says Asia is rising, the more accurate term is the world is becoming leveled once again.
To all those that thinks the West will remain on top, it could happen, but it needs to unite and form a country that's about the same size as China and India, like the ancient Romans or make another Industrial revolution like event happen.
