An eye opening review. Multiple quality and performance issues reported by the author with this vehicle(Which by the way costs a lot for its class despite being made using cheap labour). Not to mention, he was stalked by the company when he was reviewing the car(WTF, who does that??). With the price of one of this car or even less, you can buy much better quality EVs like BYD, Xpeng etc.

So much for a 'premium' brand.

Well hopefully VinFast doesn't pull a Kandi where they show a parking lot full of cars in the US but never actually offer them for sale.

. .
It is being sold as a Golf cart https://www.topnotch-auto.com/pre-owned-cars/detail/2022-Kandi-Kruiser/885919

VinFast may also end up positioning it as a Golf cart.

That's pretty much what I said about all these small EV cars being sold like hotcakes in China.

.
The lesson is not to buy vehicles from countries not known to have large domestic auto manufacturing market.

It took 30 years for the South Koreans to finally start getting it right, and they're still working out some kinks. I will be well into my 50's before I would give Vietnamese cars a look.

Also, this
VinFast flew me from Columbus, Ohio, to San Francisco, put me in a really nice hotel for one night, then flew me and at least 100 other journalists, influencers, YouTubers, TikTokers, VinFast reservation holders (called VinFirst), VinFast employees, and other persons of interest from SFO to Vietnam on a chartered plane, all so we could sample the company’s new EVs. We stayed at two private-island resorts and spent a night in Hanoi at the same hotel where Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un met for the first time.
is NOT how Soichiro Honda marketed his first car.

He and other Japanese automakers hired https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Edwards_Deming and produced small fuel-efficient cars and shipped them to U.S. When U.S. buyers bought these Hondas and Toyotas in 1970's, they were impressed by fuel efficiency and quality and never looked back on these brands. Two stars were born and with them Japan became a darling of world auto markets.

When VinFast decides to spend its capital on Youtubers and TikTokers instead of the likes of Edwards Demings, you know that their effort is a flash in the pan and they will end up, may be, making golf carts and skateboards/scooters at best.

You shouldn't trust any car that cost less than $20,000 USD (dealer invoice, not MSRP) these days.

Ah come be serious There is no tiktok when Toyota came to America otherwise the Japanese would use it. The critic is the cars carry weak battery. Ok good. I don’t know. The company says however the next batch of cars will carry standard battery. 2 battery factories in Vietnam are under construction. 1 in the US will start in 2024. The ground is already leveled, roads are being constructed.

That was not my point. I was trying to say, the Japanese companies used Better Quality as the sharp end of the stick to open the market. There were many avenues of flashy advertising available then. Like using glossy magazines like what Swiss watches, fancy cigarettes and liquor used to do (with scantily clad young women, no less). But they preferred to let Quality do the talking; and the results were devastating (to Detroit).

Yup, they did the dog and pony show strategy.

Vietnam exports will be about $400 billion this year. If we make junks we would not sell so much.

True, but there is an order of magnitude difference between, say, garments and transport equipment. If I buy a shirt and tears somewhere or loses a button, I just discard it. When Boeing screwed with 737 MAX software, it almost went out of business. In fact, Japan's Takata corporation went bankrupt due to airbag sensor problem.

VF cars meet the US safety standards, probably the most stringent in the world. About quality, the cars carry 10 years warranty, 125,000 miles. You don’t find any other carmakers that offer that. I know competition is tough. That’s a big issue.
