THE UPCOMING BATTLEGROUND: NA120 PMLN vs PTI

Us koom se kia expect karna jiske kudh ki minister kahti hey kay ham Kuta b khara karen tu loog use ko vote dengay indirectlly telling voters that u r asshole ham kuta khara karain kay insaan lol aap jahil hain jahil he rehngay and that minister later apologize but kah sahi gaye hay hahahahah
You are being too hard on the people. Even with all the manipulation this margin shows that there is progress being made. Steadily they are waking up and are thinking for themselves as to what is right and what is wrong.

For all we know, if PMLN had not abused their power the victor chosen by the people would have been different

Although I am not favour of dumping the current system (contrary to what @BATMAN implied); but only to answer your question, there is a system of proportional representation that is different from the current system.

However, like any other system, it has strengths and weaknesses.
Every system has its pro and cons and flaw is in people who run the system and not the system itself

Pakistani democracy:
50.1% is a winner and rules, 49.9% is a looser and gets nothing.

Hon Batman,

Your question is genuine, but unfortunately this is exactly what happens. In the early days of democracy in Athens, only one black ball (No vote) more than white ball was needed to reject the issue or a candidate.

No voting system is perfect. In the US they have Electoral College and a candidate can get majority vote but still not get elected as president. This has happened 4 times in the US history. Last time it was in 2016 where Hillary Clinton polled 65.85 million votes versus 62.98 million votes for Donald Trump but Donald Trump won

In a ‘First past the post’ system, practiced in the UK, India & in Pakistan, this is exactly what happens. Winner takes all. Many European countries have Proportionate Representation. But in that case even parties with extreme views, let us say an extreme right wing party such as SSP wins 5% of the vote, that party will have 5% of the assembly seats and in case of hung parliament, can demand a can demand Wahhabi doctrine be declared as official creed of Pakistan as a price for their support; a greedy party such as PML-N may even accept this condition to cling on to power.

Regrettably in every election in my lifetime, losers never accept defeat and always cry ‘Dhaandly’. In this very case Yasmeen Rashid is planning to challenge the results on the bases on the alleged missing 29,000 votes.

Can one honestly believe that all 29,000 would cast their votes and all of the votes would have gone to PTI in the ward where PML-N had the majority of 39,000 in May 2013 elections?

Turn out in a by-election is normally low, in Pakistan even in general election turnout is seldom more than 50%. Even if it is 60%, it means only about 18,000 votes. There were 44 candidates and Yasmeen Rashid would need about 90% of the votes cast to overtake the 15,000 deficit. In reality at best the difference might have shrunk to 10,000 but no more.

In my humble opinion, once people have cast their votes, their verdict should be gracefully accepted. However this is my view which everyone is free to reject.

“History shows us that people often make mistakes, they give wrong decisions, they vote for the wrong persons! And history also shows us that in the end they pay a heavy price for it!

If you are stupid enough not to know the difference between the devil and the angel, you quickly find the devil! This is what happens to most people in democracies just after elections!

Lahore ke log sub se Jahil hai. Bhegarat.

This is akin to the jahil Americans voting for Trump. At least the Americans are realising their mistake but punjabis have been voting the same PMLN for 30 years and will never wake up.

Keep in mind PMLN had ruling party advantage. If NA120 would have been a PTIvictory it would have been depraved of resources/money as punishment. In some ways this will help PTI in 2018

Also I don't think its fair to insult Lahore citizens. they are showing progress in standing up for their rights. People are asking for what they deserve/being critical with regards to governance. Its worth appreciating!

The margin of victory has reduced significantly if I am not mistaken? Good sign for opposition parties in next years election. NA120 is the core of PML N so an opposition victory was never on the cards. However the amount of votes PTI was able to garner shows it can give a real tough time in other parts of Lahore and Punjab in the next election.
