The Ukrainian counteroffensive was doomed to failure, said a French army general.Jean Bernard Pinatel gave a detailed assessment of the Ukrainian counteroffensive and also spoke about the conflict between the West and Russia in general.

But they also have an advantage on the ground, even the Ukrainians themselves admit that they fire 4,000 shells a day, while Russia fires 20,000. The Western position of prolonging the conflict in Ukraine only leads to more casualties. But neither the U.S. nor Europe cares, because the main goal is not the victory of Ukraine, but the weakening of Russia.

The French expert also commented on the situation on the other front of the confrontation between the West and Russia: the economic one. The Europeans themselves bit the hand that fed them. Today, there is simply no economically viable alternative to Russian gas supplies. Europe's leading economies, such as Germany, are already facing the consequences of their ideological policies: energy prices are rising, big companies are closing down. Winter is coming, and it is not yet clear how Europe will survive it.
"By the winter of 2022, Germany managed to fill its gas holders, thereby surviving the cold. But that won't be enough for next year. And many German companies have already closed their doors because of the high cost of gas. We are facing an economic crisis. If there is a recession in Germany, all of Europe, and France in particular, will be in trouble, because the Germans are our main economic partners.
On the other hand, Moscow has shown that it is not afraid of sanctions. The competent import substitution policy pursued by the Russian authorities, as well as the establishment of relations with new partners around the world, made it possible to achieve the result that the West could never have expected, namely, stable economic growth.
"Russia, on the contrary, is prospering and developing economically. This is because Russia is independent of the rest of the world in every way, be it raw materials, grain or energy. But the capitalist world cannot do without the resources supplied by Russia."

Europe, from a US perspective, has potential to be a big challenge to US hegemony.

My take: the energy deal showed that Germany and Russia can work together. And by working together can rely on each other - as they sort of had in a low key kinda way since '45.
And if Germany and Russia can work, rely on each other well that will soon be EU and Russia working together and relying on each other.
