The time is right for Japan to expand its security role

China Threatens India Over Japan's Military Drills[/url]
Japan and India: soft balancing as a reaction to China's rise?

Yeah the self-proclaimed best navy and air still depend on the US for support. For everything. That is right.

Frankly, IN is not better but on par with Chinese atlest in IOR ( With an Active CBG and NOTHING to Match the Destroyers with Brahmos + Barak 8 combo )

btw,US , Till Date has NOTHING to do with IN.

The moment when we got tough on them, they go cry to their American daddy for guarantee assistance.

What we do is to ensure peace upon the dragon sky and sea. As you may very well know, we are a victim of foreign bully so it is up to us to ensure peace will prevail, that mean a bigger gun pointing at our potential enemy. That is peace action plan! LOL

I can see they Teach you that India is siding with US to Counter China. Nope. India Think for India and Indian Interests :

- We rejected their F/A 18s,
- We still have not purchased Nuclear Items from them though THEY actually helped us Clear the NSG

Wake Up.

Perhaps due to perceived U.S. reluctance to risk increasing tensions with China, other regional states are beginning to speak up more forcefully and even act.

Far too long have Japan & Germany lived in a self accepted exile.

No nation shall go to war for another. Each nation has to stand up & be counted for what it feels it is.

It is heartening to see Japan assert itself. I wish it god speed.

Japan can't be taken seriously until they are able to write their own national constitution. Currently the Japanese national constitution and the ultimate law of Japan is written by the foreign occupier (United States, after invading and subjugating the Japanese); talking about Japan 'expanding its role' is another way of saying United States is expanding its role. We all know the role Japan plays vis-a-vis U.S.

So basically now the U.S. will use its Japan piece more frequently on the geopolitical scale, more so in the South China Sea arena now that China is starting to more adamantly safeguard its national security.

Japan's constitutuion change: a brutal violation of its spirit

BEIJING, July 2 (Xinhuanet) -- China calls the Japanese Cabinet’s resolution, that reinterpreted its Pacifist Constitution, a brutal violation of its spirit. Beijing questions whether Japan will change its path of peaceful development, which has been upheld since World War Two.

China has also protested Tokyo’s strategy of pushing a domestic political agenda by hyping up the "China threat". Under the new policy, Japan’s cabinet has paved the way for its military to fight overseas.

Widespread protests after the announcement on the policy for Constitutional change. A change to the decades old ban on collective self-defense. The move has angered China, with whom relations are already strained.

"The new policy raises doubts about Japan’s approach to peaceful development. We urge Japan to sincerely respect the rightful concerns of neighboring Asian countries, diligently solve any related issues, and not affect China’s rights and the stability of the region." Hong Lei, Spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry said.

As part of its so called "proactive contribution to peace", the Abe Cabinet has allowed for Japanese involvement in the defense of its allies. This move has paved the way for Japan to send its troops to fight overseas. Many regard this as the first step in what could be the renewed militarisation of Japan.

Abe’s visit to the Yasukuni shrine, which also houses war criminals and the debate over responsibility for comfort women, have already deteriorated Japan’s relations with neighbors in East Asia.

China has strongly accused Japan of ignoring international norms, stretching the limits of its pacifist Constitution and bolstering the military.

Earlier, during the Shangri-la Defense Dialogue, PLA’s Deputy Chief of Joint Staff, Wang Guanzhong urged the Japanese government to dispel doubts and concerns stemming from history, abandon historical revisionism and behave properly in a bid to win confidence from neighboring countries.

Most Chinese believe Japan’s constitutional change is a fundamental departure from the postwar defense posture. The release of Japan’s collective self-defense abilities will add new tensions in the region. The uncertainties over Japan’s move will prompt Japan’s Asian neighbors to adjust their policies in the future.

@Nihonjin1051 I just praised East Asians for being polite and humble but.....
I think Chinese lost their confucean values during the course of time which is jointly shared by China and Japan, I guess now its Japan alone

Being polite and humble doesn't mean tolerating it when a joke country tries to threaten your great nation.

What of it? Is it a change to become independent from their occupying overlords? Nope it is not. It is a change to become more aggressive. The change is of course approved and supported by the U.S.

You fail.

I failed? Japan wanted to change it. So in reality you failed.

Oh sure, and maybe, just maybe--Japan also wanted the US plaza accord that shackled the Japanese economy, and also wanted its prime ministers one after another resigning because their policies displeased the U.S.

The point here is pretty clear.

Aaaaand yes, sir, you fail.

No, your point was pretty much a strike and out. So yes you failed. There is no maybe.

Before talking about "a bigger security role for Japan", can we spend 30 sec. to take a look at the fiscal condition of the government of Japan?

If Japan is a Japan Inc., it would be bankrupted already.

The red-curve refers to government expenditure, blue-curve refers to tax income. With the ever-large gap between expenditure and revenue, can anyone here tell me how could Japan get the necessary financial resources to "expand its security role"?

@Nihonjin1051 any insights?

Also take a look at the rocket-climbing debt outstanding of the Japan Government! Can we expect the debt volume to return back to a reasonable level in foreseeable future?

Japan need to mobilize now against China by first taking over Taiwan. If they wait another 10 years, it will be too late.
