The real truth of so-called peace loving Buddhists of Myanmar
Perception manufacturing industry is very important in today's world to rein over or force others to believe in your thoughts and ideas.
There is no place for logical discourse due to blind following generated through such perception management system. World is seething in anger on the plight of Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar whereas Aung San Suu Kyi, the de facto leader of Myanmar initially remained silent and after continuous prodding by world leaders, instead of opposing the atrocities committed by the government, defended her regime's policy and blamed the Rohingya community for creating problems.
Several Noble Laureates including Desmond Tutu signed the letter addressing the United Nation Security Council, criticising the role of Aung San Suu Kyi for her silence and inactivity in controlling the oppressive crackdown by Buddhist extremists and government. This letter signed by eminent personalities reminded the UNSC about past tragedies such as Darfur, Bosnia, Rwanda etc where systematic genocide had taken place in the past.
Islam and Muslims are terrible words in today's world, all thanks but no thanks to Zionist American media's propaganda. There are people who have tried and are still trying to paint Rohingya Muslims as terrorists, although knowing well that Rohingyas are the most prosecuted community according to the United Nations.
Even the so-called educated intellectuals having inclination to Rightist ideology who write for news websites are blaming Rohingyas for their plight. There are certain online articles which claim that the Buddhists of Myanmar are peace loving people in general and the Muslims are responsible for problems in Myanmar. I have already stopped expecting anything sane from such pseudo-intellectuals as they are living in their preconceived shell of bigotry. But rebuttal of such false propaganda is very important, by countering these people, by providing facts, so that the common man can be saved from hatred filled agenda of these pseudo intellectuals.
Buddhist rulers were never a peaceful lot in Myanmar, so the people who are trying to hide facts should read the history of Myanmar carefully. Burma (now Myanmar) came into existence with the rise of Pagan Kingdom, before which the country was divided into many tribal states. Unification of Burma was started in 1044 by Anawhrata, the Pagan prince who invaded and conquered most of the surrounding areas around Irrawady Valley, finally controlling lower Burma too. It was the first time in history that unification of Upper Burma and Lower Burma took place. Pagan Empire failed to sustain the continuous assault of Mongol rulers therefore the king fled to Lower Burma where his son murdered him. After the collapse of Pagan Empire, Burma fragmented into different parts and every part was ruled by different ruler.
In the late fourteenth century, two powers of reasonable size emerged namely the Ava Kingdom controlling Upper Burma and Hanthanwaddy or Pegu Kingdom ruling over Lower Burma. Arakan Prince, who was living in exile in Bengal, with the support of Bengal Sultanate unified the Arakan region in 1437 laying the foundation of Arakan Kingdom. Before that, Ava and Hanthanwaddy Kingdoms fought against each other for 40 years to take control over the whole region which caused severe devastation in both kingdoms.
Reunification of Burma was achieved in 1541 by Taungoo king Tabinshwehti who founded the Taungoo Empire after defeating the more powerful Hanthanwaddy Kingdom in a 7-year-long war which started in 1534 and ended in 1541. The wars between different Buddhist rulers continued until the English took control of Burma after defeating the Burmese people in three Anglo-Burmese Wars. Burma remained a vassal state of British India which got separated in 1937, becoming a separate colony of Britain. Burma got its freedom from British rule in 1948 and a civilian government was formed.
In 1962, the army led by Gen Ne Win took over the control of Burma and formed a highly authoritarian government. Several intermittent protests for democracy erupted during the reign of Ne Win and all these protests were suppressed brutally by force leaving behind scars of death and destruction.
In 1988, students movement started against the army rule from Rangoon University which is commonly known as 8888 Uprising. Security forces of Burma suppressed the democratic uprising by killing thousands of protesters. Aung San Suu Kyi became a national icon post 8888 Uprising for pro-democratic group. In 1990, the army government allowed free elections and Aung San Suu Kyi's party won the majority of seats comprising almost 80 per cent of total seats but the military government refused to transfer power to the newly elected party.
After the abrogation of the constitution of Burma by Gen Ne Win, Kachin people withdrew from the forces and formed their independent army named Kachin Independent Army (KIA). After the voluntary withdrawal of Kachin people from the forces started the prosecution of their community by Burmese government. Different reports confirm that the atrocities committed by forces included rape, murder, torture, torching of houses etc.
The more recent war had errupted when government forces attacked KIA positions on June 9, 2011 killing thousands of people and displacement of thousands of Kachin people. Civilians were specifically targeted and hundreds of villages had been wholly or partially abandoned. Apart from Kachin people, Karen people have also systematically been targeted by different Burmese governments due to their pro independence demands and more than 2 million people of Karen ethnicity are living as refugees. Their plight is also no more different than Kachin people of Burma. However, Rohingya Muslims remain the most prosecuted community in Myanmar. Different governments of Myanmar have committed atrocities on these people which are beyond imagination. Just because of that several eminent human rights activists and organisations are not only condemning but also requesting the world community to take stringent possible action against the Myanmar government.
Above provided brief historical account of Myanmar or Burma is good enough to have an insight about the true nature of Burmese Buddhists. Myanmar has never been a peaceful state; its whole history is steeped in blood and violence. And such atrocities and oppression of people didn't end even after the formation of a so-called democratic government under the leadership of human rights activist Aung San Suu Kyi. Although she has been very vocal against the atrocities inflicted upon the people by government during her time as a social and human rights activist, the same Aung San Suu Kyi is now defending the government's policy of committing atrocities on Rohingya Muslims.
So the people who are claiming about the peaceful nature of Burmese Buddhists are in reality fooling the masses.
