The blame game between Pakistan and Afghanistan has often taken the focus off the importance of staying united against common enemies. It is no secret that the terrorists would like to see both nations remain tangled in their differences while clearing the way for their terrorist activities. We have always emphasized the importance of shared cooperation and assistance between the regional partners. State Department spokesman John Kirby said last week: “It is in the urgent interest of both countries to eliminate safe havens and to reduce the operational capacity of the Taliban on both sides of the border”.
Given the seriousness of the situation, it is great to see Afghanistan and Pakistani officials meeting and addressing their shared concerns. The U.S., Pakistan and Afghanistan share a common stance against terrorism, and we certainly hope these meetings unify both nations in regards to their shared peace objectives in the region.
In your opinion, how important is it for both nations to iron out any differences and work together to secure and stabilize the region?
