Marking the resumption of talks over Iran's nuclear programme, the Pew Research Centre conducted a major survey into how the world views the Islamic Republic.

More than 45,000 people were polled across 40 countries, with the end result being that a global median of 58 per cent say they have an unfavourable view of Iran, versus a positive view of 23 per cent.

A higher proportion of Israelis than any other nationality had a negative view of Iran (92 per cent), but just behind was Jordan (89 per cent), Spain and Italy (both 87 per cent).

In comparison in the US and UK the percentage of people saying they had an unfavourable view of Iran was 76 and 62 respectively.

At the other end of the spectrum, Pakistan was the only country polled where a majority of people (57 per cent) had a favourable view of Iran; one of only four countries (the others being Vietnam, Ghana and Ethiopia) to have, on balance, an overall positive view of Iran.

Things to be noted..that inspite of a Non Muslim nations, India is the only Non Muslim nation in the green zone...That is surprisingly positive view towards Iran

. .
Proves we as a ppl (Pak) don't give a shit abt secterian nonsense... Although the popularity of Iran has decreased significantly after the recent border tensions.

Actually we the Pakistanis are horribly sectarian.

There is support for Iran, n not because of them being Shia
It is because Ayatullahs and their chants.

Pakistani people are totally unaware that ordinary Iranian is pro-West to the core.

Youth in Iran grew up long after the 79 revolution. So they do not share the world view of Ayatuallahs.

So the picture is more complicated than what is shown in the survey.

is this really reliable ?

How come russians and chinese view iran negatively.....

the logic is quite simply, enemy's enemy is a friend....Iran being officially anti-west and extremely anti-israel looks good to pakistanis who are also anti-west and anti-israel to the core......

Jordan, a fake little desert country. My taint is more important than Jordan. With a british accent, you might even call it jewdan.

Iran has had an extremely large and positive influence on India for millennia. Many of India's top wealthy industrialists and businesspeople are Persian (Parsi). Many hindi words are Persian etc etc. So that's why they have a good view of Iran. And also, Indians are independent and don't listen to the western media as much. They're no dogs and slaves.

Sire had the average Abdul been secterian we would not have had shia heads of state,COAS's etc...

The truth is that the average Abdul don't give a sh-t abt sects unless you don't finger his beliefs ... Half of my family is shia ...

In my univ -- dorm/hostel we were 4 ppl (illegals roommates included).. 2 Sunnis,1 (me) and another shia ... We never had any "conflict" over beliefs... All of us praye at the same mosque (in our hostel - univ).... Even the sajdagah (soil from Karbala) is placed with the Holy Quran in our room...

Yes, but nothing that can not be restored. Contrary to many Arab countries, general population of Pakistan is not sectarian.

That applies to Pakistan as well - More so as it is right next to Iran. Through history at times Pakistan was satrapy of Persian Empires. The Parsi community in Pakistan is also very influential. The defining differance between Urdu/Hindi is that Urdu has higher levels of Persian words, other than that both languages are two sides of the same coin.

its not about Indians being independent, or enlightened. Indians do have positive view of parsis but nobody considers them iranian anymore. Indian shias have positive view of iran due to obvious reason.
for rest of people, we dont have anything to complain about iran. they never invaded us, which is a positive. :)
besides Indians mostly watch local news channels, not western/international ones, and local news usually has not much to say about iran other than when important state heads visit and sign agreements.

There are of course hindu right, for them muslims are enemies, so iran too is viewed unfavourably in general by them. But then Iran has got good political relation with us(compared to their relation with pakistan), so iran is made an exception even by part of hindu right(who tend to be nationalists)

Overall Indians dont have much to say either way, positive or negative.

And on top of that.............the common man impression about Iran is a less conservative nation rather than typical conservative Gulf type Muslim nations ..And Iran plays somewhat less biased towards Pakistan wrt India Pakistan rivallary too..That creates a positive impression for us..

.
good to see India in the green, and that's not just reflective of Indian muslims' views.. we have historical ties with the Persians and no bad blood.

Indian people support Iran in their fight against the followers of the extremist nazi saudi cancerous and perverted version of that religion.
