1. Narendra Damodardas Modi, 66
Prime Minister of India
(Rank 2016: 1)

Why
Because nearly three years into his term, he remains the unchallenged Number 1. Because under him, the BJP looks unstoppable, forcing the Opposition to continually play catch-up. Every key move the Modi government makes — from surgical strikes to demonetisation — is done in his name. Under him, the Prime Minister’s Office wields almost absolute power, inviting awe and criticism in equal measure. His relentless campaigning fuelled the party’s sweep in Uttar Pradesh, setting the stage for 2019. His constant communication underlines the power of his politics.

Power Punch
Demonetisation. Its economics may have been suspect but its politics was pure gold. He proved his critics wrong and projected the hugely disruptive note ban as a transformational reform that people must support for the greater good. And they did.

What Next
Halfway into his term, he’s looking beyond 2019. Economy and employment, rising expectations of the young remain his key challenges at home that will also define his place in the world.

By the way
He loves photography, shoots a lot and always directs photographers even as he poses for them.

There is no one from occupied Southern India in Top 210
Behave yourself...

Currently, BJP is in govt which didn't have power in past in south India...
But
South Indians in the list
Venkaiah Naidu
Subramanian Swamy
S Jaishankar
Siddaramaiah
Arvind Subramanian
Ram Madhav
Pinarayi Vijayan
Chandrababu Naidu
N R Narayana Murthy
P Chidambaram
J Chelameswar
Asaduddin Owaisi
M K Stalin
K Chandrasekhar Rao
K V Kamath
Mallikarjun Kharge
V K Sasikala

None of these from northeast were in 2016 list but now they made in the list & their power surely will rise in coming years...
Himanta Biswa Sarma
Kiren Rijiju
Sarbananda Sonowal
Badruddin Ajmal may make acome back.

These were born outside India
Fali S Nariman, born in Yangoon
Ram Jethmalani born in Karachi
Vijay Rupani born in Yangoon...
I may have missed some...

This list is mostly politicians. Politicians are powerful because they control the levers of Power. This does not mean that they should be discarded. however a more balanced list is by India Today
I think IE list is better but I think Scidina should be in list & he is more powerful than Sachin Pilot in INC you know INC inducted Kapil Sibbal but didn't induct him who is from UP too, Someone from BJP Karnataka like BS Yeddiyurappa should have been in the list.
Some are overestimated like Yogi Adityanath, Gandhis & Mamata Benerji, Piyush Goyal(Who doesn't have much appeal & isn't a cabinate minister), ML Khattar, Mayavati is must be in top 30, she got more votes than in 2014. Nasim Zaidi is must be in top 50.

.
I said, there is no one from occupied southern India , in the Top 10.

.
All rankings are based on subjective criteria.

But the first rankings are completely bull shit.

Arvind subramaniam, s jaishankar, and all kinds of other people have power over Mayawati!

Mayawati and Prashant Bhushan are neck to neck!

Let's remind people something:

Mayawati is still the ultimate head of BSP, whose party still got 22% of the votes in UP, and who still retains a heavy influence among dalit voters.

And Arvind Panagariya has more power than Aamir Khan!

This list is too BJP, Government, heavy.
