The most and least happy countries around the globe

well given other stats of India , like below average literacy rate , low per capita income , income inequality , sanitation problem etc etc , I would say the happiness index arrived at for India is appropriate , i.e we are among the least happiest in the world . Sounds about right

They pick up a number of people does a survey, ask them few questions hopefully they answer honestly.

It doesn't matter if you're Socially and Economically weak as a country, if you fair well in other indicators your ranks shoot up so don't be surprised to see Libyans happier than Chinese

Or Nigeria who now have nearly half of it's people living in extreme poverty again fairing better than China.

Well this means that we have undocumented economy.. People are happier and they can afford things.. but don't pay the due taxes..

Pakistan is also one of the most generous nation in the world...giving/helping others makes one happy. As it is said Pakistanis gives the most in Charity but pay the least taxes, that is because of the people mistrust on the govt...hope it changes and it is changing actually, tax net is spreading.

I'm not talking just about money. If you have scary amount of child mortality rate, poor quality of life, low incomes, skyrocketing inflation, lower life expectancy and they're still called happy then they need a mental checkup.

All top countries in higher happiness index are welfare countries and with the best available social/welfare services available and other countries ranks with the best health, education and living standards.

There are some discrepancies in ranking but there are reasons for it like for China, the Iron curtain, communist govt. hold on freedom, media and lots of other issues...the reason for lower ranking.

what good are ambitions and good life style if you're not happy pursuing them,peace at heart is all we humans desire.Look at the Scandinavians and North Americans they all are happy bocz they are at peace

That 'more money' thing is also flawed, India Govt. having more money, 400 billion USD in reserves doesn't necessarily translates into individual Indians getting the benefit of that stashed money.

Also slightly higher per capita income for India here becomes redundant(in happiness context) as that per capita includes all the billions of USD's held by Ambanis, Adanis, Mittals and super rich of India...when you divide the total India GDP by their population you get the per capita GDP and that doesn't means the super poor in India is getting the per capita income one gets as statistics.

There is much more unequal distribution of wealth in India than Pakistan. True there are many times more billionaires in dollar but at the same time tens of millions of more poor than Pakistan. The difference lies here...unequal distribution of wealth in India.

All top countries in higher happiness index are welfare countries and with the best available social/welfare services available and other countries ranks with the best health, education and living standards.

The European countries would fare better in any indicators, you can take livable cities index, sustainable nations index and what not so they are not needed in such a comparison at least here.

Yeah, in short it's not an accurate depiction of a country rather bits and pieces and based on survey conducted with people. Which explains why countries like Nigeria, or Libya or even Saudi Arabia faring way better than China but China inspite of having better quality of living, very high life expectancy, a better Socio economic structure, accessibility, development etc... but media and personal freedom is low makes them one of the least happy countries.

Yea thats visible from the comments here whats sharing and stroking ego. Would be wonderful to see if someone shared all those thousands of index in which we are way better, but no one does. We dont want to rub your noses. Feel happy that you are more happy.

Not sure why economic conditions are being attached to happiness

Beyond being common sense, it's well documented that after meeting basic living expenses, happiness is completely unrelated to income.

Unless, of course, money is what makes you happy, although that's not a natural state of mind.
