On August 11, 1947, Mohammad Ali Jinnah addressed the first constituent assembly of Pakistan and said, “You are free; you are free to go to your temples. You are free to go to your mosques or to any other places of worship in this State of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion, caste or creed—that has nothing to do with the business of the State.” This message of the Quaid does not resonate with the terrorists. The twin attacks on churches in Lahore prove that.
Since the all-out war on the TTP terrorists started last year, the coward terrorists have intensified their efforts to hit soft targets. We have seen attacks on places of worship on a regular basis. The minority Shia community has been hit all over the country. Attacks on public schools have killed hundreds of children and teachers. Even the poor polio workers are targeted by ruthless terrorists on a regular basis. These are all acts of desperation. It shows that the enemy is cornered and has no place to run. Pakistan is an important country in the region and a stable Pakistan can nurture a stable region. The enemy knows that and is trying to disrupt that by keeping Pakistan on the edge. The United Sates Government has worked hard in the region to bring back the peace that has been disrupted by the terrorist’s agenda.
The lynching of two terrorist suspects after the church attacks is not a good sign, but it reflects the fed-up mind set of the people against the terrorists and their supporters. It also shows the frustration of the people who have rejected the terrorists and their ideologies. It is a clear signal that we need to get together to defeat the terrorist ideology by not only going after the terrorist training facilities but also their command and control structures as well as the support and funding they are receiving.
