We are ranked behind Zimbabwe. That is the accurate ranking. CCTV propaganda always likes to inflate ourselves, in actuality we are the weakest nation on earth, so continue underestimating us. :china:

.
I'd say that list is otherwise solid except Canada being ranked 4th...

.
This ranking is correct, It is Survey data released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

China industry is still very bad, especially in light industry.
Don't overestimate and optimism.

.
The ranking is not accurate but it doesn't have to be. Going by CASS own measurements, a quantitative measure would show that we're not 7th, I won't say what we are though, we all know what the real measure is, and what indicies to use for measurement. Such rankings are meaningless, but are useful tools for shaping opinion.

Hey, Not as good as you think.

Economy: Our economy still lacks a strong middle class and a sustaining domestic industry. Our GDP per capita is still miles behind its European, American, and Japanese counterparts.

Sciences: When the US and West scientists earned and wrapped up Nobel Prizes for physics, chemistry, medicine, What do we gain?

Resources: We need to import all the resources, in addition to rare earth.

Population: Chinese people living under poverty line is 8.5%. As many as 114 million Chinese were actually living on less than $1.25 a day and were regarded as poor by the internationally accepted guidelines of the World Bank. The number of poor people is the world's No. 2.

Overestimate our own = Failed

I agree with both these statements.

judging by the comments, Indian media and a lot of Indian members here can use lessons in humility and modesty.

agreed, but i'm looking at bulk indicators such as articles published, patents published, etc, instead of statistical outliers like nobel prizes which are less useful measurements of achievement (India has won more Nobel Prizes than South Korea!).

depending on what data we use, the quantitative results are very different. To avoid meaningless argument, it is better to just put an upper and lower bound on China's ranking. It should be somwhere between and including 2 and 7.

.
I think it's a objective and equitable ranking!most of them are the developed countries except China and India.

.
Germany #2

the most successful nation in this 'financial crisis'

and Germany is the EU

.
Well Canada does have a bigger economy than certain self-proclaimed superpowers and the second largest oil reserve on earth.

Going by the World bank figures of 1.34 tn for Canada and 1.31 tn for India for 2009, India should have grown bigger than Canada considering the current growth rates.

World Bank, World Development Indicators - Google public data

Sorry to rob you of your pleasure to degrade but you are an year late to take that cheap shot at India, better try to find something negative quick about India cause they are disappearing fast.
